ROLE PURPOSE
Purpose of the role/key responsibilities:
- Manage the indirect tax compliance function across the offices; managing and allocating work to junior members of the team as necessary
- Identify issues and opportunities to continuously improve the indirect tax compliance processes
- Manage and support the team in all aspects of client work, liaising with the client engagement team ensuring all client deadlines and demands are met
- Take ownership of client portfolio, developing relationships with clients to ensure satisfaction with services provided and identifying opportunities to support clients
- Take ownership and responsibility for delivery of client work from start to finish, in relation to any indirect support required
- Manage all indirect tax correspondence related to clients and ensure client queries are dealt with in a timely basis, with minimal guidance
- Undertake review of indirect tax compliance work, highlighting areas where additional support required
- Take responsibility for advisory and project work to a high technical standard, writing in a clear concise manner, providing recommendations where applicable, with minimal guidance
- Maintain and develop technical knowledge, undertaking research of new legislation, identifying opportunities for clients and advising accordingly
- Coach junior members of the team and develop their technical knowledge, delegating and reviewing pieces of work as required
- Support the leadership team with the day-to-day operations, ensuring financial, utilisation targets and deadlines are met
- Develop an understanding of the wider services of the firm, identifying opportunities for further work and prepare proposal documents for final review
- Support the indirect tax business development projects, participating in client events and delivering technical training if required
- Support Directors and Partners on, and where appropriate take the lead in delivering, advisory engagements, providing clear, commercially focused VAT advice, supporting clients with structuring, transactions and risk mitigation
- Take ownership of client relationships and ongoing engagements, ensuring high-quality delivery of advisory work and identifying opportunities to deepen relationships and provide additional value
- Proactively identify advisory opportunities across the client base and externally, including those arising from changes in HMRC policy, legislation and case law, supporting the development and delivery of these opportunities
Experience & qualifications
- Experience working in a similar role
- Experience of technical compliance and advisory work
- Strong technical skills and keen to develop further
- Ability to build strong client relationships
- Experience in leading teams and coordinating delivery of services
