Purpose & Scope
We are seeking an experienced, technically strong Indirect Tax Compliance and Technology Specialist to join our team in Poland. This role requires a core tax capability, responsible for safeguarding the integrity of VAT/GST reporting and indirect tax data across the EMEA region, with a clear roadmap to expand coverage into APAC and other global markets.
The role sits at the intersection of indirect tax technical analysis, compliance execution, and tax determination design. You will apply deep VAT/GST expertise to review compliance outputs, resolve complex indirect tax questions, and correct upstream data and system issues that directly impact statutory filings and tax authority positions.
Working closely with the wider Tax function, as well as Global Business Services (GBS), Digital X (DX), and external service providers, you will play a key role in indirect tax transformation initiatives, ensuring that ERP configurations, tax engines, and master data structures accurately reflect indirect tax legislation and business reality.
Role and Responsibilities
- Serve as the go-to expert for complex VAT/GST matters, providing technical guidance and resolving issues escalated by operational teams and external partners.
- Advise the business on indirect tax treatment for day-to-day and cross-border transactions across multiple countries.
- Review tax-related data, postings, and system outputs to support accurate and compliant VAT/GST reporting and filings.
- Partner with Tax, Shared Services, and Digital/Technology teams to identify risks, resolve issues, and improve tax data quality.
- Maintain and govern customer and vendor tax master data, ensuring compliance with local VAT/GST regulations and e-invoicing requirements.
- Create, update, and manage tax codes and tax determination rules within ERP systems.
- Own and maintain the taxability matrix, ensuring accurate mapping of transactions, tax codes, and reporting outcomes.
- Coordinate indirect tax compliance activities and monitor key deadlines, ensuring timely and accurate data availability.
- Lead the indirect tax workstream for procurement and commodity code structures, improving tax accuracy and reducing reporting errors.
- Support tax technology initiatives, system enhancements, automation projects, and AI-driven solutions impacting indirect tax processes.
- Investigate and resolve complex data and system issues affecting tax reporting.
- Identify tax compliance risks, analyse root causes, and implement sustainable process and system improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in Indirect Tax (VAT/GST or equivalent), ideally within a multinational in-house tax team, global capability center with strong tax ownership, or professional services environment including big 4 firms.
- Strong experience working with ERP systems, tax engines, master data, and large transactional datasets, with proven ability to translate tax law into system logic.
- Solid experience with EMEA indirect tax regimes is required; exposure to APAC or the Americas is a strong advantage.
- University degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Recognized Indirect Tax qualification (e.g., CTA, VAT Diploma, or local equivalent) is highly preferred.
- Additional language skills are a strong advantage.
