
Sodexo Australia is seeking passionate and dedicated Indigenous Mentor and Community Liaison Officers to join our team. These roles are integral to supporting the cultural wellbeing and career development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees across the organisation, ensuring an inclusive and supportive workplace environment.
About the Role
The Indigenous Mentor and Community Liaison Officers will provide onboarding, mentoring, and cultural support to Indigenous employees through our Indigenous Mentoring and Career Pathways Development Program. Your role will focus on supporting employees’ professional growth, career development, and personal resilience. This will be achieved through regular support interactions, cultural wellbeing activities, and by connecting team members with relevant services both internally and externally.
You will play a key part in fostering strong, culturally respectful relationships with Indigenous communities and stakeholders, while actively supporting Sodexo Australia’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and broader Indigenous engagement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Mentoring:
Provide cultural wellbeing support and mentoring to Indigenous employees.
Facilitate onboarding and career development, and encourage participation in training and development opportunities.
Conduct site visits to engage with mentees and support them through the mentoring program lifecycle.
Maintain accurate records and confidential documentation related to program delivery.
Community Liaison:
Foster and strengthen relationships with Traditional Owners, Custodians, Indigenous Enterprises, and communities.
Identify programs and initiatives aligned with partnership opportunities for collaboration between Sodexo leaders, teams, and communities in which we serve.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
A Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (Human Services or Indigenous Community Health and Wellness qualifications are desirable).
Demonstrated understanding and lived experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and engagement with community Elders, Lands Councils, and Community-controlled Organisations.
Experience in mentoring, community engagement, or program management.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to support cultural awareness and community engagement activities.
An ability to build trust and rapport with Indigenous team members and stakeholders.
Experience working in diverse and fast-paced environments, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Support community-based initiatives such as employment and training programs, ensuring alignment with our Indigenous Employment and Retention Strategy.
Engage internal stakeholders to promote cultural awareness and inclusion through community engagement activities.
Cultural Guidance & Protocols:
Provide cultural advice and guidance to internal stakeholders, ensuring cultural protocols are respected and understood.
Facilitate cultural immersions and workshops to increase cultural understanding within the workplace.
Reconciliation Action Plan & Reporting:
Promote and share insights related to Sodexo’s Reconciliation Action Plan.
Participate in Indigenous Affairs team meetings and collaborate with other departments to drive outcomes aligned with our Indigenous strategy.
Additional Requirements:
Police clearance will be required.
Experience working in the Energy and Resources (Mining) industry is highly desirable.
Knowledge of integrated services delivery (e.g., food services, site catering, and village environments) is beneficial.
This role is based in Brisbane and will require regular travel to various Sodexo Australia sites.
