Job Description

About Us

Indigenous Workstars empowers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through culturally led employment, recruitment and mentoring programs. We believe meaningful work strengthens families, communities and long-term economic independence.

Our programs provide tailored, holistic support that builds confidence, develops skills and creates sustainable employment pathways across Central Queensland and beyond.

About the Role

We are seeking an Indigenous Employment & Engagement Specialist to deliver end-to-end recruitment and employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander jobseekers.

This is a hands-on, autonomous role combining employer engagement, business development, recruitment, mentoring and post-placement support. You will manage your own portfolio of employers, candidates and contracts, acting as a trusted partner to both jobseekers and industry.

You will play a key role in identifying employment opportunities, preparing candidates for success, supporting sustainable placements and ensuring compliance with relevant funding and reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of employers, candidates and contracts
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local employers and industry partners
  • Identify and develop new employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates
  • Deliver full end-to-end recruitment, including advertising, sourcing, shortlisting, screening, interview preparation and reference checking
  • Reverse market candidates to employers and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes
  • Provide mentoring and post-placement support to ensure sustainable employment outcomes
  • Support candidates with work-readiness, referrals and local services where required
  • Ensure compliance with funding, eligibility, claims and reporting requirements
  • Maintain accurate and timely records across client and candidate systems
  • Achieve placement, outcome and performance targets
  • Represent Indigenous Workstars at meetings, industry forums and community events as required

About You

  • You are a motivated and culturally capable employment professional who enjoys working across community and industry.
  • You will bring:
  • Experience in employment services, recruitment, workforce development or employer engagement
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with cultural awareness and respect
  • Strong relationship-building, communication and negotiation skills
  • Confidence managing multiple priorities, targets and deadlines
  • Experience delivering end-to-end recruitment or employment outcomes (highly regarded)
  • Understanding of government-funded employment programs and compliance requirements (desirable)
  • Strong organisational skills and confidence using Microsoft Office and client management systems
  • Relevant qualifications are welcomed but not essential — lived experience and demonstrated capability are highly valued.

Why Join Indigenous Workstars?

✔ Make a meaningful difference for First Nations communities

✔ Work in a purpose-driven, culturally grounded organisation

✔ Diverse role with community, employer and program focus

✔ Opportunity to contribute to regional impact and growth
