Job Description

We are working closely with a local authority in Isle of Wight to assist with the appointment of an Independent Reviewing Officer,on a 6- months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay £34.62- £46.50 per hour



The Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) is responsible for providing independent professional oversight, challenge and quality assurance for children who are looked after and children subject to child protection processes. The role involves chairing Looked After Children (LAC) Reviews and Child Protection Conferences, ensuring that children and young people have a meaningful voice in decisions affecting their lives and that plans are child-centred, outcome-focused and responsive to identified strengths, risks and needs.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all participants have an appropriate opportunity to contribute, raise concerns and challenge professional decisions where necessary.
  • Meet with children and young people before meetings where appropriate to understand the issues they want raised and ensure their voice is represented.
  • Ensure parents and family members have an appropriate opportunity to express their views and understand recommendations, decisions and plans.
  • Ensure subsequent meetings are arranged within statutory timescales.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant professional qualification in Social Work, such as a Degree in Social Work, Diploma in Social Work (DipSW) or equivalent recognised qualification.
    Current registration with Social Work England.
  • Knowledge or training in strengths-based approaches such as Signs of Safety would be advantageous.

Essentials:

  • Significant post-qualification experience within children's social care.
  • Substantial experience of working with children and families in safeguarding, child protection and/or looked-after children services.
  • Experience of chairing or participating in Child Protection Conferences and Looked After Children Reviews.

  • You should be available to work immediately or at a short notice.
  • You should have right to work in U.K
  • This role requires an Enhanced DBS
