We are currently recruiting for a caring and dedicated Health Care Aide (Independent Living Assistant) to join our team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows all policies, directives, procedures, rules, regulations and Acts pertaining to the operation of St. Michael’s Manor Vegreville.
  • Reminds Residents or assists Residents to take prepared medication from bubble-pack or dosette as identified by the Resident Care Plan as assigned.
  • Follows and adheres to Supportive Living’s expectations regarding Resident independence, choice, dignity, privacy, individuality and ensures a home-like environment for Residents.
  • Provides and receives report at change of shift.
  • Asks Supportive Services Supervisor for clarification of assignments if required.
  • Reads the staff communication records.
  • Refers to Resident records as required.
  • Maintains a clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for Residents, staff and visitors.
  • Assists Residents with laundry service and housekeeping as assigned.
  • Participates in setting up dining room, serving meals, and cleaning up afterwards.
  • Assists in kitchen as required including washes dishes, sweeps, washes floors, puts stock away and other duties as required.
  • Ensures exterior of building, parking lot and grounds are clean and free from debris and garbage.
  • Sweeps walkways and entrances and picks up garbage.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and follows infection control and WHMIS protocols.
  • Assists with orientation of new staff to job responsibilities.
  • Inspect guest suites for damage upon guest arrival and departure.
  • Assists tenants moving in and out as assigned.
  • Collects money and writes receipts for guest meals and gives to Supervisor.
  • May assist with group recreation activities as directed.
  • Notifies Supportive Services Supervisor about Resident changes in condition, and planned Resident absences.
  • Participates in the orientation program and staff development programs as directed.
  • Promotes and maintains good public relations within the facility and with outside organizations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of work-related information at all times.
  • Ensures that equipment, procedures and activities are conducive to a safe environment for Clients, staff, volunteers and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supportive Services Supervisor

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a graduate of a recognized Health Care Aide program.
  • Active registration in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
  • Experience in housekeeping, meal service is an asset
  • Prior caregiver experience would be an asset.
  • Performance acceptable to the Employer in your current position.
  • A friendly disposition and good interpersonal and communication skills are preferred
  • Must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Must be willing to work closely with seniors, and/or physically/mentally challenged individuals and within the value system of St. Michael’s Health Group.
