Literacy Aotearoa is seeking an experienced and passionate Kaiako to deliver an engaging Employment Pathways programme designed to support rangatahi to build confidence, develop work-readiness skills, and transition into employment, training, or further education.

This role is ideal for a motivated kaiako who is committed to creating meaningful change and achieving excellent outcomes for learners, particularly Māori and Pacific communities.

About the Role

As a Kaiako, you will:

  • Deliver a high-quality, learner-centred pathways programme to Rangatahi.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment.
  • Support learners to identify goals, build confidence, develop skills, and progress toward positive futures.
  • Develop strong relationships with learners, whānau, employers, and community partners.
  • Monitor learner progress and maintain accurate programme records and reporting requirements.
  • Support learner recruitment and engagement activities.
  • Contribute to achieving programme targets and learner success outcomes.

What We're Looking For

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • A minimum NZCALNE qualification or an equivalent teaching qualification or relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to achieve excellent educational and employment outcomes for learners.
  • Demonstrate experience working effectively with rangatahi.
  • Strong understanding of culturally responsive and strengths-based teaching practices.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to motivate, engage, and inspire learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, including learner record keeping and reporting.
  • Knowledge of local employment opportunities, community networks, and support services.
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within education and learner support.
  • Experience delivering employment preparation, vocational training, work readiness, or transition-to-work programmes.

About Literacy Aotearoa

Build confidence and learn new skills!

Literacy Aotearoa offers adult education programmes across Aotearoa, in the community and in workplaces - for no cost to the learner.

We help adults develop their skills with language, literacy and numeracy so that they can pursue their goals in education, work and life. We work closely with Maori, Pasifika and other community groups.

We develop, promote and deliver accessible, quality literacy services to adult citizens and permanent residents aged 16 and over. We support community development by ensuring the peoples of Aotearoa are critically literate and able to realise their full social, cultural and economic potential.

Our learning services are available nationwide, offering

- 1:1 Apprenticeship support

- Customised Workplace Training for staff

- Contract support services for ACC clients, MSD clients and the Ministry of Pacific Peoples

- Community group classes, from Dargaville to Invercargill, offering a variety of programmes

- an Adult Tutoring qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching, Level 4.

Using Numbers - beginner, upskilling or workplace focused

Driver Education (Road Code tests): Learner Licence, HT Class 2

Essential Communication: conversational English, communication for daily life, workplace communication
