The Incinerator Fireman is responsible for the general operation and cleanliness of the Waste Treatment Room.

  • Operate and control the incinerators and shredders in a safe manner, as applicable according to ship specific operation, taking into consideration the hazards associated and ensuring proper segregation of waste being input.
  • Ensure all waste is properly prepared to be processed into the incinerators, shredders, compactor, or stored in cold store.
  • Participates and implements all jobs and tasks with highest attention paid to safety of the vessel, person(s), and the environment.
  • Refer all technically related problems to the First Engineer.
  • Report to the Environmental Officer if a consistent quantity of garbage is not separated properly.
  • Ensure that all waste is properly separated, packaged and labeled as required before disposal ashore. Special waste as (lamps, cartridges, batteries, etc.) will be disposed ashore according to the instructions of the Environmental Officer.
  • Responsible for safely landing waste material in scheduled ports as designated by the Environmental Officer.
  • Always be present in the Incinerator Room while the Incinerator is in use.
  • Obtain permission from the bridge before starting any operations (burning in the incinerator, food waste discharge, crushing bulbs, etc).
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • This is an entry level position.
  • Experience on vessels in equivalent position.
  • Knowledge of the Company's SMS.
  • Skills including, but not limited to:
    • Team Work
    • Seamanship
    • Deck/Engine Work Experience
