Job Description

Inbound Supervisor

The Inbound Supervisor directs the physical receipt, data verification, and secure storage of incoming industrial metals and bulk commodities. Operating within a high-value, heavy-material logistics environment, this role blends industrial labor management with meticulous inventory compliance. The supervisor ensures all inbound operations run safely, efficiently, and in strict accordance with London Metal Exchange (LME) regulations and global customs standards.

Core Responsibilities

?? Managing Receiving Operations

  • Lead floor teams—including forklift drivers, crane operators, and material handlers.
  • Oversee the safe unloading of massive bulk freight from railcars, ocean containers, and flatbed trucks.
  • Streamline dock traffic to optimize daily turnaround times.

?? Strict Quality & Condition Auditing

  • Inspect incoming metal shipments (e.g., aluminum ingots, copper cathodes, steel coils) for water damage, corrosion, or defects.
  • Document and escalate any structural anomalies or damage discovered during unloading.
  • Maintain high standards of quality control unique to industrial metal logistics.

?? Data Verification & LME Compliance

  • Reconcile physical shipment data (weights, batch numbers, unit measures) against customs permits and trade documentation.
  • Guarantee zero data discrepancies to maintain seamless compliance with LME protocols.
  • Utilize Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to scan, log, and assign exact storage locations.

??? Strategic Space & Allocation Planning

  • Orchestrate the layout of the receiving dock and warehouse floor.
  • Ensure heavy metals are slotted efficiently according to weight restrictions and safety limits.
  • Manage structural floor loads to prevent safety hazards.

?? Enforcing Industrial Safety

  • Train staff on heavy-machinery handling, proper PPE utilization, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain daily compliance with strict OSHA standards and internal facility hazard regulations.
  • Conduct regular performance tracking, equipment checks, and on-the-floor training.

Daily Shift Breakdown

  • Shift Kickoff: Conduct safety huddles, review incoming freight schedules, and assign daily tasks.
  • Dock Execution: Monitor active unloads, manage carrier traffic, and troubleshoot broken or shifted loads.
  • System Logging: Input receipts into the WMS, ensuring exact tracking of every inbound lot.
  • Team Oversight: Provide real-time feedback, perform machinery inspections, and mentor new hires.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years in industrial warehousing, heavy freight logistics, or bulk commodity operations.
  • Leadership: Proven experience supervising floor teams and operating heavy machinery (forklifts, overhead cranes).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and industrial documentation.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with LME guidelines, customs permits, or OSHA safety regulations is highly preferred.
