The In-House Packaging Designer is responsible for creating and executing packaging and merchandising design solutions within a high-volume CPG environment. This role focuses on packaging design, ensuring artwork is brand-focused, production-ready and delivered efficiently through established workflows.

The ideal candidate has strong pre-production knowledge, including experience working with preparing artwork for print. This designer is comfortable working independently while managing multiple concurrent projects, in a fast-paced, constant-flow environment.

Key Responsibilities

Packaging Design & Execution

  • Develop and implement design for packaging and merchandising deliverables.
  • Translate existing design systems, VIS toolkits, and creative briefs into accurate, production-ready packaging layouts.
  • Execute designs across multiple SKUs, pack types, and formats while maintaining brand consistency and visual quality.

Pre-Production & Print Readiness

  • Prepare production-ready packaging artwork with an understanding of print requirements.
  • Ensure files are accurate, well-organized, and ready for downstream pre-production and mechanical development with a pre-press vendor.
  • Support smooth handoffs to prepress and production partners by proactively identifying and resolving technical issues.

Workflow & Project Management

  • Manage a steady volume of work and prioritize effectively across multiple concurrent projects (often up to ~10 at once) alongside the Sr. Design Manager and Traffic Coordinator.
  • Maintain strong version control, file organization, and documentation to support efficient reviews and approvals.
  • Identify risks related to timing, inputs, or clarity and escalate appropriately to keep work moving.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with Design Managers and peer designers to ensure consistency and accuracy of brand visual strategies.
  • Partner cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external partners as needed to meet project objectives and timelines.
  • Contribute to improvements in tools, templates, and workflows that increase efficiency and consistency.
  • Support capability building across the in-house design team by sharing best practices and learnings.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience designing within a CPG packaging environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite with experience producing print-ready packaging files.
  • Working knowledge of pre-production workflows and print considerations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within structured packaging workflows and asset management systems.
  • Familiarity with merchandising assets such as displays, trays, shippers, or labels.
  • Experience supporting high-SKU, high-volume packaging programs.

Portfolio Requirement

  • Candidates must provide a portfolio demonstrating CPG packaging work, including examples that show print-ready execution, multi-SKU adaptation, and attention to detail.
