Job Description
Thrive Education Partners is seeking an experienced Private Middle School ELA Tutor to provide individualized academic support to middle school students in Williamson County, Tennessee
This opportunity is designed for an educator with strong expertise in English Language Arts who can help students strengthen reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and overall communication skills. We’re looking for someone who can go beyond helping students complete assignments—you should be able to identify skill gaps, make challenging material approachable, and help students become stronger, more confident, and increasingly independent readers and writers.
What You’ll Do
- Provide individualized tutoring in middle school English Language Arts, tailored to each student’s current coursework, strengths, and areas for growth.
- Strengthen reading comprehension, including identifying main ideas, analyzing text, making inferences, citing evidence, and interpreting increasingly complex literature and informational texts.
- Support the full writing process, including brainstorming, organization, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing.
- Help students develop stronger skills in paragraph and essay writing, grammar, vocabulary, and written expression
- Identify gaps in foundational reading or writing skills that may be interfering with success in current coursework.
- Support students with homework, essays, projects, assessments, and preparation for quizzes and tests.
- Teach practical strategies for approaching challenging reading assignments and organizing written responses.
- Adjust instruction based on each student’s learning style, school curriculum, teacher expectations, and academic goals.
- Build confidence and independence so students develop strategies they can increasingly apply on their own.
- Communicate regularly with families about progress, priorities, and areas that may require additional support.
What Makes Someone Successful
- Strong expertise in middle school ELA. You are confident supporting students across reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literary analysis.
- Skilled writing teacher. You can help students organize their thinking, develop ideas, strengthen written expression, and understand how to revise their own work.
- Experienced with middle school students. You understand this developmental stage and know how to build rapport while maintaining appropriate academic expectations.
- Able to identify where students are getting stuck. You can distinguish between a comprehension gap, weak foundational skill, difficulty organizing ideas, or misunderstanding of an assignment and adjust your instruction accordingly.
- Engaging and encouraging. You know how to make reading and writing approachable while helping students develop stronger skills and confidence.
- Reliable and consistent. You can establish a consistent tutoring schedule with students and families throughout Williamson County and the greater Nashville area
