The Import/Export Analyst is responsible for the end-to-end management of import and export activities within both Commercial and Manufacturing facilities. This role ensures that all goods entering and leaving the facilities comply with regional and international regulations, such as Customs, Export Controls, and Sanctions. The ideal candidate will maintain, update, and implement the Internal Compliance Program to facilitate smooth, compliant, and cost-effective operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Import/Export Operations: Oversee day-to-day trade operations at Medtronic Manufacturing Site in Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam, including coordinating with freight forwarders, logistics providers, and customs brokers to ensure timely, accurate customs clearance.
- Support APAC Trade Operations: Support on an adhoc basis as needed.
- Documentation Management: Prepare, review, and maintain all trade documentation, including packing lists, commercial invoices, Certificates of Origin, and Airwaybill/Bills of Lading.
- Classification & Compliance: Perform tariff classification (HS Codes), valuation, and Country of Origin determination for raw materials and finished goods.
- Export Control & Sanctions: Screen, review, and monitor transactions against denied party lists (DPL) and ensure compliance with export control regulations (e.g., US ECCN, Malaysia Customs regulations).
- Policy & Procedures: Develop, implement, and update internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with changing trade laws.
- Audit & Risk Management: Conduct internal audits and post-entry reviews to identify risks and implement corrective actions.
- Strategic Planning: Manage Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and/or any Custom Program utilization to optimize duty costs.
- Training & Stakeholder Management: Educate internal cross-functional teams (procurement, production, logistics, sales) on trade compliance requirements.
- Any Other Ad-hoc Trade related matters
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Customs clearance efficiency (reduced delays).
- Accuracy of HS Code classification.
- Successful audit results (internal/external).
- Duty cost savings through FTA optimization and/or any Custom Program
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, GTS), Microsoft suite of products; especially Word, PowerPoint, Excel & SharePoint
- Able to read and speak English, Malay/Bahasa
- Knowledge of Power BI, SQL, Python, Power Automate will be advantageous
- Knowledge of programming languages will be advantageous
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- High initiative and innovative
- Experience in trade compliance, specifically within a manufacturing, precision engineering, or electronics environment.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of local customs regulations and international export controls (e.g., US EAR, EU regulations, SG Strategic Goods Control Act).

- Demonstrates knowledge of government rules and regulations across multiple processes.
- Increases credibility by demonstrating timeliness, sense of urgency and process knowledge.
- Provides context to enhance data analytical techniques and creates clear picture of end-to-end business process to guide decision-makers.
- Establishes comprehensive system and source logic to record and report data
