Job Title: Import Specialist

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Import Specialist to join our logistics team. In this role, you will oversee the management of imports, ensuring compliance with international trade regulations and the timely clearance of goods through customs. Your proficiency in import documentation, customs procedures, and data accuracy will be crucial in facilitating smooth international logistics operations.

This role also requires strong attention to detail and advanced Excel skills, including daily use of formulas like IF, SUMIF, and LOOKUP, as well as the ability to validate and navigate large datasets across multiple working documents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and coordinate ocean/Air freight bookings with overseas factories into multiple US and INTL locations
  • Track and trace methods for Air and ocean shipments
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and government agencies to facilitate timely customs clearance.
  • Maintain accurate records of import transactions and ensure proper duty and tax payments are made.
  • Monitor shipments to ensure compliance with import regulations and resolve any issues that arise during the import process.
  • Communicate with vendors, shippers, and internal stakeholders regarding shipment statuses and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide detailed reporting and analysis on import activities, identifying areas for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Use advanced Excel functions (e.g., IF, SUMIF, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP) to cross-reference and reconcile import data, shipment tracking, tariff codes, and inventory records.
  • Validate data accuracy across multiple Excel spreadsheets, ensuring consistency between internal systems and external documents.
  • Create and maintain Excel-based templates or dashboards to streamline import reporting, compliance tracking, and vendor coordination.
  • Stay up to date on changes in international trade regulations and compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience as an Import Specialist or in a similar role within logistics and supply chain.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, import documentation, and tariffs.
  • Experience working with customs brokers and freight forwarders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of functions like IF, SUMIF, and LOOKUP, and comfort working across large, interrelated spreadsheets.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to validate, troubleshoot, and maintain accurate datasets.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with logistics software (e.g., ERP or TMS platforms) is a plus.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional teams.
