Job Description

The Registered CT/MRI Technologist arranges patients for Magnetic Resonance and Computed Tomography examinations. Produces MR and CT images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. Prevents patients from being exposed to unnecessary radiation. CT/MRI technologist monitors and ensures safety of patient and all personnel prior to entering magnetic area. Performs patient screening by using pre-established protocols for any ferrous materials and medical device history, safe administration of contrast media, and utilizes departmental policy to perform safe operation of equipment and all functions of the job. Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family. Works under minimal supervision and may perform additional job duties.

    • Radiologic principles and theory, anatomy and pathology processes are demonstrated utilizing the most appropriate technique and/or position for optimal examinations, as demonstrated by exam results.
    • Policies and protocols are adhered to ensuring all examinations are optimized for interpretation, as demonstrated by exam results.
    • Sound radiography principles are taught to staff and students as required by organization and supervisors’ direct observation.
    • Appropriate adult/geriatric/pediatric/neonatal patient care is provided, and the technologist assesses and interprets data based on the patient's status and the age-specific needs of each individual and demonstrated this by successfully completing age-specific checklist criteria.
    • Physicians' orders, and reports are checked for inaccuracies and errors are reported to the RN or Charge Tech. The completeness and accuracy are evidenced by have no exams done without proper orders.

    • Effectively communicates with patient to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patient or patient's chart to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination, as evidenced by the exam results.
    • Procedures are explained to patients/families and technologist answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation, as evidenced by customer satisfaction.
    • Assistance is provided to the physician in performing a variety of examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile technique, as evidenced by physician's satisfaction.
    • Clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams are identified and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome, as evidenced by exam results and patient satisfaction.
    • Patient safety is demonstrated in department by use of side rails, braking mechanisms and patient monitoring as evidenced by risk management reports.
    • Any adverse, unsafe, or unusual condition is reported, documented, and corrected, as evidenced by the patient/employee incidence reports or department specific logbooks.
    • The understanding of IV’s, heparin locks, and central line usage as they pertain to Computed Tomography is demonstrated, as evidenced by observations by supervisor and peers.

    • An orderly, safe, and clean state environment is maintained, and rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies and has always required with supplies readily available for procedures.
    • Equipment is operated according to manufacturer's specifications, and images are acquired in appropriate technique as required, as evidenced by exam results.
    • Equipment is troubleshot effectively and immediately and reports equipment problems to biomedical engineering/vendor, as evidenced by service reports.
    • The employee Performs/recognizes need for routine maintenance of all equipment to maintain consistent quality images, as evidenced by the physician satisfaction and the exam results.

    • Patients are correctly identified along with their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy, as evidenced by the lack of mislabeled studies.
    • Patients are tracked according to department procedures, and technologist can Identify errors and takes immediate action for corrections, as evidenced by the RIS reports.
    • The technologist participates in department/hospital performance improvement initiative, in-services, and meetings, as evidenced by attendance records.

    • Exposure readings are maintained within the ALARA limits, as evidenced by monthly radiation exposure reports
    • Effective use of radiation protection procedures with collimation devices and protective shielding is always utilized, as evidenced by incidence reports and supervisor observation.
    • Technical factors that will effectively control the radiation dose the patient receives are modified within specified guidelines as needed.

Experience - CT registry and 6 months of MRI experience

Education - Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technologist Program

Training - Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technologist Program
