Job Description

Samsung Israel R&D Center (SIRC) is the innovation arm of Samsung in Israel, responsible for developing innovative products and technologies in domains ranging from image sensors to memories, which are embedded in hundreds of millions of devices worldwide.

At SIRC, we drive continuous innovation while creating an environment where engineers can make the most of their technical skills, creativity, and curiosity.

We are looking for an Image Processing Algorithm Engineer to join our Sensor FEISP R&D team and contribute to the development of next-generation Samsung image sensors.

The team:

The Sensor FEISP Algorithms R&D team develops image-processing algorithms and system-level solutions that enable Samsung image sensors to deliver high image quality across a wide range of products and operating conditions. Our work combines image and signal processing with a deep understanding of CMOS image sensors, from optics and pixel behavior to analog and digital circuitry.

A key part of the engineering challenge is turning algorithmic ideas into practical solutions that operate under tight hardware and firmware constraints, support multiple sensor configurations and use cases, and retain sufficient flexibility for calibration and tuning post-silicon. This often requires creative use of approximations and heuristics, either by identifying and quantifying patterns in sensor data or by modeling sensor behavior and noise based on the underlying physical mechanisms.

The team is also responsible for exploring new algorithms that can enable future features, products, and markets.

What will you do?

  • Develop image-processing algorithms and system-level solutions for integration into Samsung image sensors.
  • Analyze sensor behavior and image data to understand problems, identify root causes, and design practical solutions.
  • Develop algorithms and heuristics based on an understanding of CMOS image sensor operation, system requirements, and hardware and firmware constraints.
  • Translate algorithmic concepts into hardware-efficient solutions, considering implementation complexity, fixed-point arithmetic, and resource constraints.
  • Own your algorithms through integration into the final product, working closely with RTL, verification, firmware, and image-quality teams and providing the algorithmic support required for implementation, testing, silicon bring-up, calibration, and tuning.
  • Design solutions that operate robustly across different sensor modes, configurations, and real-world conditions.
  • Present technical analysis, results, and recommendations to internal stakeholders and Samsung R&D teams.

Requirements

What are we looking for?

  • BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience in image processing, signal processing, algorithms, digital design, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience programming in Python and/or C/C++.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate complex system behavior and reach practical engineering solutions.
  • Ability to reason about complex systems with interacting components, algorithms, requirements, and constraints.
  • Strong attention to detail and a systematic approach to experimentation and analysis.
  • Curiosity and willingness to develop a deep understanding of how the underlying system works.
  • Ownership, independence, and willingness to learn unfamiliar technical domains.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Fluency in English.

Advantages

  • Experience in image processing, signal processing, or computational imaging.
  • Experience working with CMOS image sensors, cameras, or imaging pipelines.
  • Knowledge of digital design / RTL and hardware-oriented algorithm design.
  • Experience with fixed-point arithmetic and numerical implementation under hardware constraints.
  • Knowledge of analog circuits or image-sensor architecture.
  • Knowledge of firmware or embedded systems.
  • Knowledge of optics.
