The Endoscopy Technician supports the care of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures. This role prepares patients and procedure rooms, performs routine and delegated duties according to established policies, and assists physicians during cases. Duties also include scrub responsibilities, assisting nursing staff, and functioning as a Sterile Supply Technician when assigned.
As part of sterile processing responsibilities, the Endo Tech processes instruments, follows proper sterilization protocols, and keeps central sterile areas stocked.
Key Responsibilities
Assist physicians during endoscopy procedures
May include holding the scope in place
Using snares or biopsy forceps as directed
Handling and labeling specimens
Set up and tear down procedure rooms
Clean and reprocess scopes following all required standards
Assist department staff with patient care and nursing functions as directed
Follow sterile processing procedures and maintain supply levels
Maintain excellent communication and collaborate with all members of the care team
Recommended: Watching EGD and colonoscopy procedure videos online for familiarity (e.g., on YouTube)
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Graduate of a School of Operating Room Technicians preferred
One (1) year of Endo Tech experience preferred, but on-the-job training is available
Strong communication and teamwork required
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Red Cross BLS certification required
Compensation
Hourly Range: $18.00 to $27.00
Bonus
Eligible for a performance-based bonus depending on achievement of defined metrics. Details provided during interview or upon hire.
