Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position): We invite applicants to apply to be research assistants on the congressional coding project. This project involves collecting text on congressional candidates "issue pages", cataloging and coding these pages, and helping to preliminarily analyze the data. After training, successful applicants will work approximately ten hours per week in the month of October and the first week of November. Successful applicants will demonstrate work ethic, the ability to overcome challenges, organizational skills, and will be self-starters who can work well with little direct supervision. In addition to gaining valuable research skills and learning about American congressional campaigns, students will also have the opportunity to analyze the data they collect with an eye toward publication opportunities.
Transferable Skills: Data collection, data analysis, reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities: Data collection, regular communication with supervising professor and timely completion of specific tasks.
Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills) St. Olaf student. Familiarity with American elections and campaigns preferred.
