Job Description

The Ford Lean Challenge is a full-immersion initiative designed for young talent to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real-world, world-class manufacturing environment. Over an 8-week period (2 months), under an on-site schedule of 5 hours per day at the plant, participants will take on the challenge of identifying areas of opportunity in production lines, logistics, or systems. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, participants will analyze operational data and design an innovative solution that optimizes processes, eliminates waste, and generates a measurable, high-value impact for the organization.

  • On-Site Commitment: Fulfill the requirement of 5 hours of daily on-site attendance on the shop floor throughout the 8-week program.
  • Process Diagnosis: Perform a detailed diagnosis of the assigned area through physical process mapping and on-site data collection.
  • Waste Identification: Identify waste (Muda), bottlenecks, and inefficiencies by applying key Lean Manufacturing tools (e.g., VSM, 5S, Kaizen, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, Standardized Work, etc.).
  • Collaboration: Collaborate actively and respectfully with operators, supervisors, and engineering staff to understand the root causes of operational issues.
  • Solution Design & Implementation: Design, propose, and implement a continuous improvement solution that is viable, innovative, and sustainable over time.
  • Impact Measurement: Monitor, measure, and document post-implementation results to validate the project's effectiveness.
  • Executive Presentation: Design and deliver an executive presentation in English showcasing the project results to the plant's leadership committee at the end of the challenge.
  • Education: Active undergraduate student currently enrolled in the 8th or 9th semester of the following Engineering programs:
    • Mechatronics
    • Logistics and Supply Chain
    • Mechanical
    • IT / Systems
    • Industrial
    • Manufacturing / Production Systems
  • Academic Performance: Cumulative GPA of 8.5 or higher.
  • Availability: Ability to commit to the 8-week program duration with a schedule of 5 hours per day on-site at the plant.
  • Languages: English proficiency at a B2 level or higher.
  • Technical Knowledge (Hard Skills):
    • Solid understanding and foundation in Lean Manufacturing tools.
    • Proven data analysis skills.
  • Key Competencies (Soft Skills):
    • Analytical Thinking: Ability to break down complex problems into actionable data.
    • Innovation Mindset: Driven to propose creative solutions and go beyond traditional methods.
    • Multidisciplinary Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with people from different areas and levels of the organization.

    • Presentation Skills: Strong ability to communicate ideas and results in a clear, structured, and impactful manner to key stakeholders and leadership.
