Our Youth in Transition (YIT) School supports students with intellectual, emotional, and behavioral disabilities through compassionate, individualized, and student-centered educational services.
We are seeking a collaborative and organized IEP/Transition Coordinator to support students in preparing for life after high school through individualized educational planning, transition services, and strong interdisciplinary collaboration.
This role is ideal for an educator or special education professional who is passionate about advocacy, compliance, student growth, and helping young people successfully transition into adulthood, vocational opportunities, and greater independence.
What You’ll Do
- Facilitate and coordinate IEP meetings and transition planning processes
- Develop and monitor transition plans aligned with student goals and post-secondary outcomes
- Collaborate with teachers, families, related service providers, school systems, and community partners
- Conduct transition assessments and support career exploration and independent living skill development
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, COMAR/MSDE requirements, and documentation timelines
- Support vocational training, work-based learning opportunities, and post-secondary planning
- Provide guidance and support to Academic Support Staff and classroom teams
- Help create student-centered plans that promote growth, independence, and long-term success

Qualifications
What We’re Looking For
- MSDE Certification as a Special Education Teacher required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college required
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience
- Experience with transition planning, vocational programming, or workforce development preferred
- Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of IEP development, compliance requirements, and special education regulations

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position within NCIA’s Youth in Transition School, reporting to the Director of Education.
