About the Role

An exciting opportunity based in Hong Kong currently exists for a Executive Director / Vice President with specialized experience and knowledge of equity products to join the Electronic Trading Risk Management (ETRM) team.

ETRM is part of the Business Control Unit (BCU) within the Institutional Equities Division (IED). This is a 1st line of defense team that manages the risks of trading listed products through the IED systems and engines.

Through working closely with stakeholders including Compliance, Technology, Business owners and the 2nd Line of Defense Risk Management team, ETRM aims to minimize unintended market impact, regulatory enquiries and erroneous trading that can result in Financial, Operational, Regulatory, or contingent Market Risk to the Firm.

We are looking for high energy, goal driven, self-motivated candidates who have strong interests in execution trading risk management with excellent interpersonal skills and firm commitment in striving for excellence. The candidate must be a team player, have a strong desire to learn, and ability to work effectively and pleasantly with colleagues across the firm.

The position requires someone who understands execution and associated risk including technology at a detailed level, is an excellent communicator, and who can navigate through various internal stakeholders. Qualified candidates need a strong background in electronic trading, trading algorithms, risk management, and either execution business or trading/Hedging strategies. The successful candidate is able to understand and analyze complex risk situations, actively manage risk reduction with appropriate escalations. This is an opportunity to work with a fast-moving, talented team, while interfacing with business owners across both agency and principal, technology teams, products and compliance across the Firm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Trading Limit Oversight: Manage, monitor, and review real-time trading limits across IED for both execution services and trading desks

  • Regulatory & Exchange Compliance: Act as a subject matter expert on interpreting and implementing trading, regulatory, and exchange requirements Experience with China regulations and engagement—including Abnormal Trading Guidelines and Program Trading rules—is a strong plus

  • Stakeholder Coordination: Centralize discussions between IED trading desks, 2nd Line Risk Management, Legal, Compliance, and Technology on broad-reaching topics.

  • Technology & Systems Governance: Coordinate, prioritize, and approve IT development and system enhancements to meet trading and regulatory requirements.

  • Electronic Trading Governance: Provide oversight for execution trading platforms and trading algorithms, including control frameworks and pre/intra-trade controls

  • Control Framework Development: Design and enhance risk controls for electronic trading applications to strengthen operational resilience.

  • Global Alignment: Collaborate with global counterparts to ensure consistency and adoption of best practices

  • Regulatory Engagement: Act as a point of contact for regulatory inquiries and external audits related to execution risk.

  • Risk Communication: Prepare and deliver presentations to senior management, articulating key risks and emerging issues.

  • Proactive Risk Management: Identify and escalate evolving risks driven by technological and regulatory changes.

Stakeholder Interaction

Work closely with Sales & Trading, Trading Desks, Product Managers, Strats, Technology, Compliance, Operations, and external regulators across regions. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are critical.

SKILLS:

Experience:
Minimum 6+ years in electronic trading-related roles (Trading, Risk Management, Technology, Compliance, etc.), with a primary focus on execution risk management.

Product Knowledge:
Strong understanding of cash equities and/or equity derivatives, including front-office processes such as:

  • Trading infrastructure and order routing

  • Execution platforms

  • Regulatory requirements

  • Trade reporting

Technical Expertise:
Familiarity with electronic trading technologies and concepts (e.g., FIX messaging, market microstructure, regulatory rules, market data).

Project & Governance Skills:
Proven experience in program/project management and governance processes.
