The Lead Instrument and Electrical (I&E) Technician Leads, oversees, assigns, organizes, inspects and participates in the work of personnel involved in the installation, modification, operation, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation, and electrical equipment; tests, troubleshoots, locates and calibrates, operates, repairs and performs preventive maintenance on instrumentation, electrical and electronic systems, components and devices at our Crosby Oxides facility. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that plant systems are installed, tested, and transferred to plant operations as per plant standards and specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participates and provides day-to-day leadership, training and direction to assigned staff in performing a wide variety of skilled tasks in the installation, operation, repair, calibration, troubleshooting, optimization, and maintenance of the plants systems
  • Trains, verifies the work of assigned staff for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards, codes, regulations, and specifications; adheres to safe work practices and procedures pursuant to Federal, State, Local, and District requirements; regularly monitors performance and provides coaching for performance improvement and development subject to management concurrence
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, including one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, cabinet layouts, instrumentation location diagrams, loop sheets, PIDs, and technical specifications to determine wiring layouts, terminations, and installation procedures.
  • Install and commission electrical systems, including equipment, motors, instrumentation, and PLC and DCS equipment.
  • Reviews or prepares drawings and specifications for contract work and inspects work performed to determine compliance to standards and requirements.
  • Develops, reviews and updates written maintenance instructions and schedules.
  • May participate in long-term planning to assess future needs.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Install and perform instrument calibrations (Temperatures, Analyzers, Flow transmitters, Differential Pressure, Direct Pressure, Level).
  • Install, calibrate, test, and commission XV valves, control valves, controllers, PLC and DCS components.
  • Test electrical systems and components for functionality, safety, and compliance with regulations.
  • Conduct loop checks between field devices and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Replace or repair faulty electrical components – examples are lights, switches, outlets, and circuit breakers.
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical work performed, including installation details, as-built drawings, inspection reports, and calibration records.
  • Maintain proficiency in the use of electrical, Instrumentation tools and equipment, such as multimeters, wire strippers, and conduit benders, field communicators (TREX, Hart 475)



Qualifications



Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in industrial electrical or instrumentation preferred. The ability to read and follow safety procedures and job-related instructions as required and five (5) years journey-level experience in Chemical plant environment. Requires ability to direct assigned crews.
  • Experience in an industrial, chemical, or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, industrial instrumentation, and process controls.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and maintaining DCS, PLCs, and motor control systems is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
