Salary Range or Starting Hourly Rate: $84,000 - $140,000 / year

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Lead ID&C Engineer supporting TOS II, at Arnold Engineering Development Complex in Tullahoma, TN. The Lead ID&C Engineer will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for supporting the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts. The individual hired for this position will be responsible for leading all Instrumentation, Data and Control (ID&C) design, implementation, and commissioning engineering activities associated with chambers test support and the implementation of new test facilities at Arnold AFB.

The successful candidate for this Engineering Lead role will work independently, solve complex technical problems, effectively lead others as mentor and coach, and place emphasis on professional development of all hardware engineers, software engineers and engineering technical specialists supporting ID&C systems and test processes in the Space Chambers test facilities. Expectations of the role include effectively working with others to manage multiple efforts simultaneously; planning, organizing, and directing the work of teams consisting of multiple skillsets and stakeholders; monitoring progress on multiple efforts; and resolving problems when required.

It is expected that this Engineering Lead will perform the general duties of an ID&C Engineer plus additional duties associated with technical leadership and personnel administration under the general direction of a Group Manager.

This ID&C Engineering Lead will be deployed to the Space Chambers Test Facilities; however, the company may reassign Leads to other areas based on workload demands and mission needs. Engineering Leads may also support multiple test areas/facilities as required.

Job Duties:

  • Research and understand a wide variety of complex test facility instrumentation, data acquisition, and control system requirements and develop successful solutions.
  • Support tasks/projects as an individual contributor as required to meet ID&C system engineering and/or test support needs.
  • Manage group assignments for other ID&C engineering personnel, track task progress and help eliminate roadblocks.
  • Serve as senior ID&C Engineer leading planning, design, and execution activities (estimates, system design products, hazards analysis, system engineer support, plan for future issues/foresee problems and resolve) assigned test facility.
  • Serve as a mentor and provide technical guidance in troubleshooting and causal analysis for engineering problems in execution of work in complex test operations; engage with Senior Staff personnel on technical issues and encourage engagement of engineering staff with Senior Staff Engineer(s).
  • Support/Plan day-to-day activities for individual contributors to the assigned project(s).
  • Monitor individual assignments and performance (technical, schedule, and cost) on specific tasks, monitor job hours expended for project/task(s), and report status to the project leadership team as required.
  • Allocate ID&C engineers to various planning, design, implementation, test support, and system engineering tasks as required to meet project requirements.
  • Track employee progress toward established goals and provide constructive input to annual performance reviews for members of the group.
  • Support technical training of ID&C engineering crew, as required to meet project objectives
  • Support development (including ensuring mentors are assigned/paired) for the team, ensure they are provided with the necessary tools and training to fulfill their responsibilities.
  • Serve on technical committees as applicable or assigned.
  • Audit/ test progress to ensure safety standards and best practices (guides, procedures and work instructions) are followed.
  • Interface with customers (Air Force, civilians and consultants), and other project managers, discipline leads, and engineers to ensure group objectives are being met.
  • Identify areas in the group where additional support may be required.
  • Support periodic internal status briefings to management and aid in financial planning with periodic labor forecasts for projects.
  • Perform basic personnel administration duties (i.e., timecard approvals, input to performance appraisals, etc.) as requested by Supervisor.
  • It is a condition of employment to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 5 years of progressive and relevant engineering experience
  • Current U. S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer’s License or a Master of Science degree or post-graduate coursework in Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronics engineering from an accredited engineering program
  • Experience in leading the design, implementation, and/or application of new instrumentation and control systems or major subsystems.
  • Currently serving as an effective mentor to one or more individuals
  • Strong interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communications skills, and confidence leading small teams.
  • Active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount BNH is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time jobs will be adjusted based upon the number of hours agreed to work.
