Junior In-House Lawyer @ KPMG | Grow your legal career close to the business

We are looking for a Junior In-House Lawyer to join our Internal Contracting Unit You will help manage legal risk in day-to-day operations, support contract work, and contribute to ensuring that KPMG operates in line with applicable laws and internal policies, while learning from an experienced in-house legal team.

What will you actually do?

You will support the Internal Contracting Unit and wider KPMG business with day-to-day legal matters, focusing on contracts, legal research and compliance-related activities.

Core responsibilities

  • Contract drafting & review: Draft and review contracts and other legal documents, such as NDAs, services agreements, supplier agreements and corporate documents, under guidance from senior lawyers.
  • Legal research & analysis: Conduct legal research on relevant legislation, case law and regulatory developments and prepare clear summaries, memos and recommendations for internal stakeholders.
  • Legal risk support: Assist in identifying, assessing and managing legal risks related to KPMG’s operations and projects, escalating issues appropriately.
  • Policies & compliance support: Support the implementation of internal policies and procedures from a legal and compliance perspective, helping ensure alignment with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Contract templates & playbooks: Contribute to the development, maintenance and improvement of contract templates, playbooks and clause libraries to support efficient and consistent contracting.

Additional responsibilities

  • Day-to-day legal assistance: Provide legal assistance on other day-to-day activities of KPMG in Romania entities, in line with priorities set by senior members of the legal team.
  • Stakeholder interaction: Collaborate with internal clients (e.g. business, finance, HR, procurement) to clarify legal requirements, collect necessary information and provide pragmatic, business-oriented support.
  • Documentation & record-keeping: Help ensure proper documentation, version control and archiving of contracts and legal documents in accordance with internal procedures.

Experience & background

  • Professional experience:
    • Typically 0–2 years of professional experience after admission to the lawyer profession.
  • Legal knowledge:
    • Solid legal knowledge, with interest in commercial contracts, corporate law and compliance-related topics.
    • Strong legal research capabilities (legislation, case law, regulatory guidance).
  • Language & communication:
    • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
    • Ability to present legal findings and recommendations in a clear, structured manner.
  • Workstyle & skills:
    • Attention to detail, reliability and a structured way of working.
    • Ability to prioritize, manage deadlines and follow internal procedures.

Tools & methods

  • Comfortable using legal research tools and online databases.
  • Good command of Microsoft Office (Word for drafting, Excel for tracking and PowerPoint for presentations).

Nice to have

  • Any prior experience (including internships or trainee roles) in an in-house legal department or commercial law firm.
  • Exposure to contract lifecycle work (drafting, reviewing, basic negotiation support).
  • Familiarity with corporate housekeeping formalities (resolutions, powers of attorney, filings).
