We're looking for an experienced ICT Project Manager to join our Portfolio Governance and Assurance team on a fixed-term, two-year contract.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in delivering technology initiatives that support KiwiRail's transformation programme. KiwiRail is in a phase of significant transformation to modernise and grow our rail and Interislander ferry services in Aotearoa. The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in planning, executing, and delivering the technology-driven projects that enable this. You will ensure that ICT projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget, aligning to KiwiRail’s strategic goals. Critical to the success of this role is the ability to cultivate and maintain effective working relationships across a wide variety of business and technical stakeholders to ensure the delivery of successful outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining project scope, objectives, budgets, schedules, and deliverables
  • Developing business cases and engaging stakeholders to support project outcomes
  • Engaging with business owners and teams to ensure business problem or opportunity is fully defined.
  • Leading project teams, vendors, business SMEs, and technical specialists
  • Managing project risks, issues, dependencies, and governance requirements
  • Monitoring project budgets and ensuring effective financial management
  • Providing regular reporting and project updates to senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Ensuring quality outcomes through testing, reviews, and delivery assurance processes
  • Driving continuous improvement and lessons learned across project delivery
  • Supporting the successful delivery of KiwiRail's ICT and business transformation initiatives

Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What you will bring:

We are looking for a highly capable project professional with proven experience delivering complex enterprise technology projects.

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience (8+ years) delivering enterprise ICT projects end-to-end
  • Working within a 24*7 highly operational transport business is advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of project methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, PRINCE2, PMP)
  • Proven ability managing scope, budgets, timelines, resources, and risks
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to align technology to business outcomes
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills
  • Experience working with vendors and cross-functional teams including other business units and SMEs
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills

Additionally, it would be advantageous to have:

  • Experience in transport, infrastructure, utilities, or 24/7 operational environments
  • Exposure to multiple delivery methodologies and tools such as Jira
  • Understanding of change management and transformation programmes
  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
  • Project management certification (e.g. PMP, PRINCE2, Agile)
