Join Empirical Solutions – ICT / Cyber Security Specialist

Empirical Solutions is seeking an experienced ICT / Cyber Security Specialist to support secure Defence facilities in Adelaide. This is a critical role within a highly secure operational environment, providing ICT and cyber security management across offices, laboratories, and integration and test facilities.

You will work closely with senior security leadership and technical stakeholders to ensure ICT systems remain compliant, resilient, and fit for purpose in accordance with Australian Government and Defence security frameworks.

About the Role

As an ICT / Cyber Security Specialist, you will support the governance, operation, and continuous improvement of secure ICT systems across multiple Defence facilities. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with security risk management, stakeholder engagement, and compliance assurance.

This position is suited to a proactive professional who is passionate about cyber security, comfortable operating in high-assurance environments, and motivated to build capability from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide ICT and cyber security management across multiple secure facilities
• Support governance and compliance with Australian Government and Defence security frameworks, including ISM, DSPF, and PSPF
• Identify, assess, and manage ICT and cyber security risks related to Defence technologies
• Support accreditation, assurance, and ongoing compliance activities
• Provide technical security advice to stakeholders and leadership
• Work collaboratively with ICT, engineering, and operational teams
• Support secure environments including Zone 4/5 facilities
• Participate in an on-call roster in accordance with governance requirements
• Undertake periodic interstate travel to support operational and security activities
• Contribute, where required, to physical security activities aligned with ICT security operations

Essential Experience & Skills

• Demonstrated experience managing ICT systems in Defence or similarly regulated environments
• Strong knowledge of Australian Government cyber and protective security frameworks
• Experience with ICT security risk management and secure system operations
• Working knowledge of networks, systems, and data links within complex environments
• Experience operating in high-security facilities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Self-motivated, adaptable, and outcome-focused

Qualifications & Certifications

Candidates must meet one or more of the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
• Minimum 5+ years’ experience working in an ICT or cyber security role within a secure environment
• Recognised cyber security certifications such as:
• CISSP
• ISO 27001 Lead Auditor
• SANS (e.g. SEC401)
• CompTIA Security+
• CISM / CISA / CRISC
• IRAP Assessor qualification (mandatory)

Security & Availability

• Minimum NV2 security clearance, with the ability and willingness to uplift to Positive Vetting (PV)
• Australian Citizenship required
• Onsite role based in Adelaide
• Willingness to participate in an on-call roster
• Periodic interstate travel required
