Job Description

ICS Cyber Security Support
Location: Offices in Derby, Warrington and Manchester. Hybrid working available with some travel to offices on an ad hoc basis
Security Clearance: either existing or the ability to gain SC level clearance required

About the Role

We’re looking for proactive and collaborative people to join our growing Nuclear Security Case team as we continue to design the Rolls‑Royce Small Modular Reactor (SMR). This role sits at the heart of our mission to deliver safe, secure, low‑carbon power for the UK and beyond.

As an OT/ICS Cyber Security professional, you would help shape a greenfield Cyber Protection System (CPS) that protects essential operational technology (OT) within our SMR design. As a member of an assurance driven team you’ll work closely with the ICS Cyber Security Lead, engineers, system owners, and our Environment, Safety and Safeguards colleagues to define robust cyber security requirements, help future‑proof our security design and assure the cyber security of systems and architectures. You will also work closely with regulatory inspectors to ensure regulatory requirements and expectations are met, communicating effectively how this is achieved.

This isn’t an IT cyber role — it’s industrial control system cyber security, supporting the protection of critical systems within a nuclear environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

We need you to:

  • Support the development and implementation of Cyber Security Risk Assessments and contribute to CPS requirements, specifications and control sets.
  • Apply Secure‑by‑Design principles and help shape Claims, Arguments and Evidence for the Generic Design Assessment (GDA).
  • Translate complex cyber risks into clear, meaningful insights for technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Support colleagues across engineering, safeguards and safety functions, ensuring cyber security is embedded into design decisions at every stage.
  • Contribute to site‑specific design work in the UK and internationally as the programme evolves.

What You’ll Bring

We know there’s no such thing as the perfect candidate — if you meet around 75% of the criteria, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for people who can demonstrate:

Technical & Cyber Expertise

  • Understanding of ICS/SCADA/OT systems, plus familiarity with standards such as IEC 62443, IEC 62645 or NIST CSF.
  • Understanding of secure‑by‑design principles, requirements identification and cyber security frameworks.
  • Good technical writing skills, ideally with experience writing and reviewing design documentation (i.e. system design requirements, system design descriptions, etc.)
  • Awareness of IT/OT interaction and ideally experience in highly regulated, safety‑critical environments.
  • Ideally have experience liaising/interacting with regulatory inspectors.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Ability to communicate cyber risk clearly to specialists and non‑specialists, responding constructively to challenge.

Qualifications

  • A relevant engineering degree — or equivalent experience in EC&I, OT cyber security or OT risk assessment/management roles.
  • Beneficial but not essential: certifications such as GICSP, GRID, GCIP, IEC62443 Certifications, CISSP, CISM or CISA.
  • Previous experience in an OT cyber security role would be desirable

Working Style & Location

Your team operates in a hybrid, relaxed and highly collaborative way, with occasional office visits for team sessions, collaboration, risk assessments or training.

You can be based anywhere in the UK, and we encourage applicants who need flexibility. We do expect some time in the office across either Warrington, Manchester or Derby.

Security Clearance

This role requires SC clearance If you already hold it, great — if not, we’ll support you through the process.

Pay & Benefits

A salary between £42,000 - £55,150

  • £2,200 benefit allowance
  • 12.5% bonus opportunity
  • 6x pensionable life assurance
  • 50% income protection
  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays
  • £250 new joiner payment

Selection Process

Once you apply, our Talent Partners will review your application. If you meet the criteria, you can expect a telephone screening call with the talent partner and if shortlisted, a 2 stage interview process, One Virtual interview and a final stage Face to Face in one of our offices.

Pay Range:

£42,000.00

-

£55,125.00
