As a key member of the Ice Arena team, the Skating Instructor is responsible for teaching the Learn to Skate programs and skating events.

Essential Functions

  • Teach the Learn to Skate Program classes, birthday parties, & special events.

  • Maintain a professional demeanor and attitude with all facility staff & guests.

  • Assist in the registration and administration of the Learn to Skate Program.

  • Submit timely and accurate timecards and payroll data sheets.

  • Submit timely and accurate class/party/special event attendance sheets and coaching fee payment receipts.

  • Organize and assist skating shows and competitions.

  • Respond quickly and appropriately to all inquiries about facility programs.

  • Communicate effectively with the Program Office and Arena Staff to maximize guest service and operational efficiency.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Guest relations — ensure that the most enjoyable experience for all Kroc Center guests.

  • Housekeeping — maintain all public and restricted areas in a neat and clean fashion.

  • Phones — incoming calls must be answered quickly and politely, voice mail calls must be returned, basic questions answered or more-in-depth inquiries referred to an appropriate staff member.

  • Generate legible and accurate accident and incident reports as required and immediately rectify or notify appropriate personnel of all accidents, or potential unsafe conditions.

  • Crowd control — assist and direct guests in moving about the facility to avoid crowded conditions and maximize service efficiency.

  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.

  • Perform other assignments/duties as directed.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift up to 25lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Skating Instructors are required to be available to teach a minimum of three hours of Learn to Skate classes each week.
  • Skating Instructors must wear the Kroc Center uniform while instructing at the Kroc Center.
  • Skating Instructors must have proof of Liability insurance on file from PSA, ISI, or USFSA listing The Salvation Army and its affiliates as additionally insured.
  • Soliciting (defined as obtaining new clientele for the purposes of private lesson instruction) by unethical means, is NOT tolerated, is unprofessional and is grounds for termination for cause.
  • Instructors MUST sign-in at the front counter before teaching any private lessons.
  • Must be able to read and write and communicate in English.
  • Must be able to function effectively without supervision.
  • Must meet health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The Salvation Army.
  • Must work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education but not limited to:
    1. Relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages.
    2. Sensitivity to children's individual needs.
    3. Use appropriate positive discipline consistently.
    4. Dependability
    5. Handle security and crisis situations, calmly.
    6. Supervise staff and participants of varying educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Must be trained in all skating disciplines.
  • Must have current up-to-date insurance on file with the Figure/Skating Manager (ISI, PSA and/or USFSA).
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of ISI and USFSA skating programs.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and abilities.
  • Must have a working knowledge of computers.
  • Must have earned a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to function in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment.
  • Able to function in an often loud and cold environment.
  • Must possess great and friendly Guest relations skills.
  • Must work with and relate well with coworkers.
  • Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with The Salvation Army
