Location:London,Stratford. High Flex, 1-2 days in the office.Open to flexible working requestsand home-workingarrangements Note this is aninternational role and will require meetings/calls outside of normal working hours and occasional international travel.

Join a collaborative, global effort to improve cancer outcomes for everyone. As a Research Manager within the International Cancer Benchmarking Partnership (ICBP),you’llplay a vital role in delivering high-quality, impactful research that helps shape cancer policy and practice across the world.

In this role,you’llmanageand deliver complex research projects across a diverse portfolio—ranging from cancer workforce and models of care to patient pathways, treatmentaccessandcancerepidemiology. Working closely with international partners, clinicians,policymakersand researchers,you’llensure our evidence drives meaningful change and supports moreequitablecancer outcomes.

What will I be doing?

  • Lead and deliver complex, multi-strand research projects across the ICBP portfolio

  • Design, manage and oversee high-quality research, ensuring robust methods,analysisand impactful outputs

  • Commission external research, including drafting tenders, assessing proposals, and managing contracts,budgetsand timelines

  • Work closely with international partners, clinicians,policymakersand researchers to maximise the impact of ICBP evidence

  • Translate complex findings into clear, accessible outputs (e.g. briefings, reports, presentations) for a wide range of audiences

  • Influence decision-makers by communicating evidence effectively and confidently

  • Represent ICBP at external meetings and conferences, sharing insights and building networks

  • KeeptheICBPProgramme Board and stakeholders informed and engaged at key stages of research

  • Critically appraise,synthesiseand distil evidence into clear, actionable insights

  • Build andmaintainstrong, collaborative relationships across CRUK, ICBP partners and external stakeholders

  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive team environment and support ad hoc priorities as needed

  • Occasionally attend meetings outside standard hours and undertake some international travel

What skills do I need?

  • Postgraduate qualification (or equivalent experience) in research,evaluationor a related field—ideally within health

  • Strong experience delivering a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods (e.g. evidence reviews, interviews, surveys, consensusbuildingapproaches)

  • Confidence analysing and integrating data from multiple sources to generate meaningful insights

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for both specialist and non-specialist audiences

  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to deliver high-quality work on time and within budget

  • Strong organisational skills, able to balance detail with strategic priorities

  • Ability to quickly interpret scientific literature and draw well-founded conclusions

  • A proactive, motivated approach with a focus on producing high-quality, impactful work

  • High attention to detail alongside an understanding of the bigger picture and opportunities for impact

  • Ability to work independently while managing complex projects

  • Strong relationship-building skills, working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders

  • Experience using statistical and qualitative analysis software (e.g. STATA, SPSS, R, NVivo)

  • Understanding of research ethics and data protection requirements

Highly desirable to have:

  • Experience working in research of cancer diagnosis/cancer treatment / cancer workforce / models of care / public health / international evidence.

  • Experience preparing and publishing academic research papers.

  • Experience using creative and engaging methods to share research findings and influence decision makers.

Internal Eligibility criteria

Internal candidates should ideally have completed their 6-month ‘getting started’ period before applying for other roles. You should also advise your current line manager at the point you make an internal application, or at the latest, at the point of being invited for an interview.

All internal candidates applying for a secondment, must have:

  • completed their getting started period

  • discussed their intention to apply and gained approval to apply with their line manager

  • been in their substantive (home) role for at least 6 months (this is only applicable if you have previously been on secondment)
