Job Summary

The I&C Designer plays a crucial role in developing precise and innovative design documentation that underpins the fabrication and installation of instrumentation and control systems across diverse engineering projects. Based in the Greenville, SC office within the D&Z MC - Engineering division, you will contribute to creating reliable and efficient designs that closely align with project objectives and industry standards.

This position requires a strategic thinker and meticulous designer who thrives in collaborative, deadline-driven environments and is committed to enhancing system functionality through detailed and accurate design deliverables. Working closely with cross-functional teams, your expertise will directly influence the successful implementation and integration of control systems within existing facilities, ensuring safety, compliance, and optimal performance.

As part of the D&Z MC Engineering business unit, your work will also support innovative engineering solutions and continuous improvement initiatives that drive operational excellence and client satisfaction. As an I&C Designer, here is the work you'll do

• Develop detailed and accurate design documents and drawings that facilitate the construction and installation of control and instrumentation systems.
• Collaborate closely with design leads and project managers to support and integrate design tasks, ensuring alignment with project timelines and deliverables.
• Create comprehensive technical documentation, including specifications, schematics, and design calculations, that supports the overall design package and guides construction teams.
• Conduct thorough field walkdowns to assess existing installations, ensuring new designs are compatible and can be implemented effectively within current systems.
• Lead and coordinate the design efforts of junior designers and technical staff, offering guidance and quality assurance to uphold project standards.
• Adhere to strict project schedules by proactively managing design milestones and consistently meeting issue dates.
• Identify and report any design scope variances or additional work requirements to immediate supervisors promptly, facilitating effective project scope management.
• Support engineering and construction teams by providing detailed estimates and cost analyses related to design implementations.
• Utilize CAD software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD to produce precise and industry-standard design drawings tailored to project specifications.
• Engage in continuous improvement practices to enhance design methodologies and tools, supporting innovation within engineering processes.

This role is for you if you have these skills

• Comprehensive knowledge of a broad range of control systems, including their function, integration, and application within industrial environments.
• Advanced proficiency in computer-aided design software, specifically MicroStation and AutoCAD, enabling the creation of complex and detailed design drawings.
• Strong command of Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, supporting the development of clear and effective technical documents and presentations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, allowing for precise documentation of design intent and effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate complex design challenges and produce practical, innovative solutions.
• Attention to detail ensuring that all design work complies with industry standards, codes, and best practices while minimizing errors that could impact project success.
• Project management capabilities to handle multiple design tasks concurrently, prioritizing workload to meet strict deadlines without compromising quality.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment, showing flexibility and openness to feedback that advances project goals and continuous learning.

And if you have these qualifications

• An Associate’s Degree (AA) in Electronics Engineering or equivalent technical qualification with at least 15 years of relevant experience in instrumentation and control design is required.
• Candidates holding a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related engineering discipline with over 10 years of practical design experience will also be considered.
• Proven experience in delivering large-scale instrumentation and control design packages within industrial or engineering project environments.
• Demonstrated capability to lead design teams and coordinate complex projects, ensuring compliance with technical standards and regulatory requirements.
• Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time to client sites, project locations, and field installations to conduct walkdowns, inspections, and collaborative meetings as needed.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with emerging technologies and best practices within the instrumentation and control design field.
• Strong emphasis on safety, quality assurance, and ethical standards in all aspects of work performed.

n compliance with this state’s pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $102,960 - $154,440. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as the final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
