
Synechron is seeking an experienced RPGLE Developer to support and develop software solutions leveraging RPGLE (IBM iSeries). This role involves designing, coding, testing, and maintaining RPGLE-based applications, working closely with clients to understand their business requirements and translate them into scalable, high-quality solutions. The candidate will have the opportunity to work with modern technologies, databases, and integrate enterprise systems to support operational efficiency and compliance requirements.
Software Requirements
Required Software Proficiency:
RPGLE (IBM iSeries / AS/400) — extensive hands-on experience supporting or developing RPGLE applications (latest version support)
SQL (supporting IBM Db2 or equivalent) — strong skills in database querying, data validation, and performance tuning support
IBM iSeries Navigator, RDi, or similar IBM development tools supporting RPGLE development and debugging
Understanding of IBM i environment management, command line, and system configuration supporting RPGLE development
Version control: GIT or equivalent — support for code management and collaboration
Preferred Software Skills:
Modern programming languages: Java, Python, or other scripting languages supporting system integration or automation (preferred)
Web-based application support tools supporting interface development and deployment (e.g., APIs, REST, JSON)
Automation tools supporting scripting and operational support (e.g., Ansible, Jenkins support)
Overall Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and support RPGLE-based applications supporting enterprise and client-specific operational needs
Collaborate with business analysts, system architects, and other technical teams to gather requirements and produce scalable, maintainable code
Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot RPGLE code supporting performance, security, and data integrity standards
Support application deployment, system updates, and environments supporting operational resilience and compliance
Maintain comprehensive documentation of system architecture, program logic, and operational procedures
Provide ongoing support, bug fixes, and process improvements supporting enterprise operational excellence
Support system migrations, technology upgrades, and enterprise process automation initiatives

Knowledge supporting regulatory and security standards related to enterprise application support
Experience supporting enterprise migrations, upgrades, or interface integrations supported by IBM iSeries systems
Alternative pathways include extensive RPGLE programming, middleware support, or enterprise application support on IBM environments supporting operational resilience
Day-to-Day Activities
Develop, test, and maintain RPGLE programs supporting core business operations and client interfaces
Troubleshoot errors, performance bottlenecks, and security issues in RPGLE applications and database access
Support system migrations, environment patching, and interface integrations supporting operational stability
Collaborate cross-functionally to analyze requirements and implement scalable, compliant solutions
Create and maintain detailed documentation, including program logic, data flow diagrams, and operational policies
Support incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for operational issues
Support system upgrades or configuration changes to enhance performance and security standards
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent technical discipline
7+ years supporting or developing RPGLE applications supporting enterprise and client-specific operations
Experience supporting database integration, system migration, or interface management using RPGLE and Db2
Certifications supporting IBM iSeries / AS/400 environment management are advantageous (if available)
Proven history supporting high-availability, operational systems in regulated industries or enterprise environments
