The Opportunity

We are seeking a Multi-Skilled Mechanical Technician who has a high level of competency in mechanical and welding skills and an intermediate level of competency in the operation and maintenance of electronic and/or electrical Company equipment.

This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.

This position is represented by IBEW Local Union #77 and filling of this position is subject to the terms and conditions of the governing collective bargaining agreement.

What you’ll do

  • Perform installation, testing, repair, and maintenance on compressor station equipment, pipeline facilities, metering and regulating equipment, communication systems, and other facilities related to the pipeline system
  • Perform routine and major maintenance on gas turbine packages, gas compressor units, and associated auxiliary equipment
  • Perform all duties associated with the proper installation and maintenance as it pertains to welding on all new and existing pipes, lines, manifolds, fittings, stations, meter sets, valves, structural facilities, and any other welding duties needing to be completed
  • Perform all types of welds with various welding equipment and techniques to include, but not limited to, oxy/acetylene, MIG, TIG, and Arc welding.
  • Record and maintain the proper documentation on the proper and appropriate reports provided by the Company to be in compliance of specifications and procedures.
  • Responsible to keep any credentials and certifications current including, but not limited to, AP1104 and WABO structural steel certification, (D1).
  • Perform service and repair to mechanical measurement or control equipment such as meters, regulators, and valves
  • Assist with power/electrical process controls (including hazardous area equipment), programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), electric generation equipment, and microwave multiplex equipment
  • Administrative, clerical, and warehousing activities
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
  • Other tasks as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Relevant natural gas or energy industry experience
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL)
  • Competency in rigging, interpreting technical reference documents, and the use of precision measuring tools
  • Competency in Tie in welding, fabrication and print reading knowledge, hydrotesting, bolt-up. Background in welding and pipefitting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two-year college degree in a mechanical discipline
  • Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting large-bore reciprocating engines and/or turbines
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines, reciprocating and centrifugal gas compressors, and standby generators
  • Industrial experience in a plant environment
  • Previous or current apprenticeship participation or completion in pipe related trades

This position requires candidates to

  • Have and maintain proper welding certifications which include AP1104 and WABO structural steel certification, (D1).
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing
  • Carry a cell phone when working and work a rotating on-call schedule
  • Work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures, heavy lifting, and cramped conditions
  • Climb and work on the upper part of compressor buildings (both inside and out)
