We are looking to hire an Hygiene Lead immediately at our Flavor Manufacturing Center (FMC) in Hunt Valley, MD.

Under the general direction of the Quality Manager, the Hygiene Lead will provide oversight, support, and governance for all aspects of hygiene at the Flavor Manufacturing Center facility. The role will ensure quality, food safety and operational expectations are met while preventing sanitation, pest control and design-related failures. The role will be responsible for the development, validation and implementation of sanitation practices including SOPs, cleaning practices, CIP & COP methodology including the selection & use of cleaning chemicals, and the development and delivery of training materials.

The Hygiene Lead also leads all elements of the site Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) including trend analysis, investigations and proper documentation to ensure early detection and proper implementations of controls.

The Hygiene Lead will work within the McCormick High Performance Cultural Framework; actively teaching, coaching, developing and mentoring sanitation

Ensure full compliance with Company Quality, Food Safety, Health & Safety and Environmental requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and continuously improves the site sanitation and pest control programs assuring appropriate corrective action completion when gaps exist
  • Manages the microbiological environmental program, and provides guidance on the plant sanitation program, advice or technical support assuring appropriate corrective actions when gaps exist
  • Leads the plantwide sanitation, pest control and environmental monitoring program to achieve key indicator results that support the site strategic objectives, goals, strategies and measures
  • Collaborates with facility departments to define sanitation activities and resources needed to ensure effective completion of Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS). Audits MSS and completes RCCA on issues identified
  • Supervises weekend sanitation activities, as needed.
  • Conducts cleaning and allergen validations and verifications in compliance with company policies.
  • Provides technical support for hygienic controls and ensures GMP compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to provide training, troubleshooting to the production and warehouse sanitation systems, equipment, and tools
  • Provide guidance and develop technical expertise in appropriate personnel regarding sanitation, pest control and hygienic design, including controls
  • Governance of digital platforms to manage MSS and Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP).
  • Provides support in external audit

Additional Responsibilites:

  • Manages fiscal responsibility to ensure the sanitation and professional services spend is consistent with business requirements
  • Participates in customer visits and audits as needed

Qualifications:

  • BSc in Degree in Food Science, Sanitation, Food Safety, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Food Technology, Microbiology or a related technical field of study in the applied sciences or comparable experience in lieu of a degree     
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the food, beverage, flavor, ingredient and/or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Minimum 5 years in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • Current advanced working knowledge in sanitation, HACCP, microbiology, pest control and quality systems
  • Experience with core sanitation services to include cleaning (wet and dry, COP and CIP, validation and verification of sanitation systems)
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, to change thinking and lead change efforts across the organization without direct line reporting
  • Ability to work and communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to break a complex task down into discrete tasks that can be comprehended by a wide range of employees
  • Proven problem-solving skills that lead to recommending and implementing solutions, often with incomplete or inconclusive information. Must have a curious and tenacious approach to work.
  • Experience developing, coaching and motivating employees in a team-based environment
  • Demonstrated ability to apply risk management principles that support both internal and external customer requirements

Base Salary: $87,910 - $153,870

Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan.
