The Global Control & Protection Engineering Leader (HVDC PDG) leads engineering teams and responsible for disciplines in all aspects of HVDC Control & Protection Engineering. The leader is responsible for the design and implementation of HVDC Control & Protection Systems by analysing customer requirements, assessing the necessary deviation from GSI standard solutions, and providing technical solutions that meet the NPI, tendering and project delivery objectives. The scope of engineering and delivery will include:
• Control Automation System & Control System Hardware and HMI
• Control & Protection System Requirement, Design, Studies and System Integration testing
• Network & Cyber Security systems
• Integration of Control System with other equipment / systems
This person will ensure that the teams have the tools, resources, and skills needed to deliver effectively. In addition, the role will drive the portfolio of continuous improvement actions across the C&P organization, with a specific focus on quality, on-time delivery and costs.
Team Leadership:
Develop the SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost) mindset and ensure meeting the KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) of Right First Time, On-time Delivery and Cost Adherence, with further focus on improving the lead time and cost-out without compromising on safety and quality.
Manage teams of Control & Protection system engineers and experts, assigning tasks, providing technical guidance, and overseeing project execution.
Recruit, develop, and mentor control system engineers to maintain a high-performing team. Ensure competency assessments are carried out and necessary development actions / succession plans are created and implemented.
Foster collaboration and communication within the team and with other departments.
Technical Strategy:
Define the overall technical vision for control system design and architecture across the organization.
Stay abreast of emerging control system technologies and identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
Development of PSCAD Network Model, Control MATLAB application Model and Control system block diagram. MATLAB application unit and system integration testing.
PSSE/PSCAD and PSSE/RSCAD Power system network conversion, modelling and verification
HVDC System in electromagnetic transient tools like PSCAD, EMTP-RV etc.
Plant modelling in various simulation tools (MATLAB, RSCAD, PSCAD etc.) and its verification and validation.
Project Delivery for C&P scope:
Drive the planning and execution of control system projects from concept to deployment, including budget and timeline management.
Ensure that project plans contain the necessary activities and studies required to meet the requirements of the customers and the proposed technical solutions.
Manage the engineering resources, workload, schedule and project milestones.
Define the project work breakdown structure (WBS), resources and skill levels required to meet the delivery timescales.
Ensure projects comply with relevant safety, quality, and regulatory standards
Engineering degree: Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering. Master’s or PhD with a focus on power systems, power electronics preferred.
Extensive HVDC experience (10-15 years), with expertise in HVDC control and protection systems.
Experience to lead and motivate large, cross-functional teams. This includes setting a clear vision, delegating effectively, and holding teams accountable for results.
Knowledge of Lean and its application in an Engineering environment. Facilitating improvement workshops.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with proven experience in managing teams with strong technical backgrounds.
Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels within the organisation.
Strong sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage technical risks
Proven skills in managing and leading global teams with strong technical background.
