Job Description

OF POSITION:

  • The Nuclear Med Tech works closely with Radiation Safety Officer to prepare, document and administer diagnostic doses of radiopharmaceuticals in the performance of clinical nuclear medicine diagnostic procedures.

SUPERVISION: Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Supervisory Responsibilities include overseeing the care of all assigned patients.
  • Radioactive material handling and protection.
  • Perform dept QA measure and cath lab correlations
  • Participates in ongoing performance improvements.
  • Keep dept compliant with JCAHO and ICANL regulations/requirements
  • File reports and communicate with hospitals and other offices as needed.
  • Competent in venipuncture techniques.
  • Consistently communicates abnormal variances of data (vital signs, pain) to appropriate staff.
  • Performs QC protocols on all equipment.
  • Performs routine scheduled exams in a timely fashion.
  • Be able to obtain pertinent patient history and documentation.
  • Be able to operate a variety of computer systems necessary to daily patient handling.
  • Understands and maintains radiation safety protocols.
  • Maintain clean, well stocked area routinely.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Registered Nuclear Technologist with the American Registry of Radiological Technologies.
  • Basic Math skills that include physics and chemistry.
  • ARRT, or Certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.
  • Must be licensed in Nuclear Medicine with the State of Louisiana.
  • CPR certified.
  • Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
  • Requires emotional stability and resilience.
  • Must be adaptable to change and receptive to delegated responsibilities.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • The physical demands vary according to physical setting.
  • Work requires a variety of physical activities including moving and being stationary for long periods of time.
  • Ability to position self to reach and use different equipment.
  • The work environment may be physically confining.
  • Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities.
  • Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds.
  • Ability to do shift work as required.
