Job Purpose
The HVAC/R Technician is responsible for assisting with the operation and maintenance of Jackson corporate buildings, data centers, and child development center. This includes primarily the operation, preventative maintenance, and repair of HVAC, refrigeration, and plumbing equipment. Based on the needs of the company the technician may also be called upon to perform other duties as assigned. The technician will also assist with assuring compliance on environmental, building, fire, health, OSHA and ADA codes and regulations.
Essential Responsibilities
Operates and maintains air handling units, boilers, heat pumps, fans, VAV boxes, pumps, Computer Room Air Conditioner, dry coolers, cooling towers, refrigerators, walk in coolers and freezers, commercial kitchen appliances, ice makers, gas humidifiers, sheet metal/duct work, and all other premise HVAC equipment.
Maintains records of all equipment service and preventative maintenance utilizing a computerized work order system.
Directs contractors and monitors work as needed for HVAC repairs and maintenance.
Supervises and supports fire protection and other vendors during inspections.
Attends classes or seminars as necessary to become certified in areas that management deems appropriate for job duties.
Wears company issued uniforms and personal protective equipment.
Must be available 7 days a week 24 hours a day for service emergencies and on call responsibilities on a rotating basis.
Operates, and maintains building automation systems and alarm systems.
Other Duties
Other duties as assigned. May include any maintenance activity commonly required in a commercial office environment or data center.
Performs other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, climb ladders and work off aerial platforms.
Must have full range of motion include bending, twisting, kneeling, reaching, squatting, and being able to work on equipment in any position.
Ability to utilize computer applications to log work and track equipment maintenance and repairs.
Ability to travel as required.
Knowledge of building HVAC systems and controls. Must understand how systems are related.
Must be self-motivated and proactive.
Must possess valid Michigan drivers license. Use of personal vehicle may be required to travel between buildings.
Qualifications
H.S. Diploma or equivalent required.
2+ years experience in HVAC/R maintenance and repair required.
1+ years experience working with building automation systems and direct digital controls required.
Must have a valid state issued driver’s license and be able to pass an annual motor vehicle background check required.
Universal Refrigeration Certified preferred but Type I and II is required.
