Job Description

This role is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining various air quality and mechanical systems at the YMCA of Southwest Florida. This position will manage locating and diagnosing maintenance problems on equipment, conducting warranty services, and quickly performing emergency repairs on HVAC/R systems.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Cleaning, adjusting, and repairing mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshooting defective HVAC systems and equipment to make diagnoses.
  • Performing preventative maintenance by changing filters and belts, clearing drain lines, cleaning reheat coils and air handling units, as well as monitoring and calibrating air handling units.
  • Diagnose and repair refrigeration and cooking equipment.
  • Improving air quality by cleaning ducts to optimize efficiency.
  • Ordering and maintaining equipment
  • Meeting local HVAC codes
  • Fixing, replacing, adjusting vents, and ductwork.
  • Ensuring condensation drain line is free of debris and draining properly.
  • Performing emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
  • Installing float valves on air handlers, as required.
  • Catalogs and maintains warranty information and specifications of HVAC/R equipment.
  • Keeping appropriate logs and records of maintenance functions.
  • Communicating with Maintenance team and supervisor.
  • Ensuring compliance with appliance standards and with Health and Safety protocols

CHILD PROTECTION EXPECTATIONS:

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
  • Attend required annual abuse risk management training.
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Ensure only authorized adults are allowed in the workspace.
  • Ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker rooms, bathrooms, etc.).
  • Ensure all entry and exit areas remain safe, secure, unobstructed, properly illuminated, and fully functional; verify that doors, locks, gates, and access control devices are operating properly; replace burned-out light bulbs or promptly report any deficiencies or safety concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two years of experience
  • Proficient electrical and mechanical diagnostic skills.
  • PREFERRED: Able to inspect and troubleshoot motors and pumps of various pool, spa and sauna equipment.
  • Proficient in reading schematics and work plans. and interpreting wiring diagrams
  • Understanding refrigeration cycles
  • Knowing how to interpret various technical data, such as pressure and temperature.
  • High school diploma, GED or suitable equivalent.
  • 2+ year commercial HVAC experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work after hours, over weekends and on public holidays with short or no notice.
  • Physically agile, dexterous, and able to work in confined spaces.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certification
  • Journeyman HVAC License or other HVAC licenses per state requirement

CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications required
  • Annual Completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens Training
  • Annual Completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention class
  • Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols
  • Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor.
