Summary

The HVAC Technician, under minimal supervision, is responsible for hands-on participation regarding the operation and maintenance of the County's HVAC equipment and associated systems to provide environmental conditions consistent with efficient and effective operational requirements in accordance with the County's standards. Conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, and equipment. Performs work in one or more of the maintenance trades: carpentry, masonry, plumbing, painting, and lighting as needed. Enhances facilities and organizations reputation by accepting ownership of new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Customer Service is of the utmost importance.

Examples of duties

Installs and maintains diverse heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Performs general and preventative maintenance on HVAC systems.

Ensures that all installations are done in accordance to the set standards.

Ensures calibration of thermostats and other controls.

Performs checks on motors and belts and handle lubrication duties.

Changes filters and replaces any parts as they wear out.

Repairs motors and services hot water boilers.

Ensures that chemical compositions in equipment are adequate at all times.

Assists in ordering supplies or equipment needed for HVAC maintenance or installation as needed.

Ensures availability of all items needed for an HVAC project.

Responds to emergency situations in order to resolve issues on an immediate basis.

Assists with inventory and maintenance of tools and equipment.

Replaces faulty or expired parts in an HVAC system.

Assists in determining the need for upgrading HVAC systems.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED), and four (4) years of experience in commercial/industrial HVAC maintenance; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications:

Must have a valid Driver's License and maintain a safe driving history as defined by the Union County Vehicle Use Policy. CPR and First Aid certifications preferred.

Special Requirements:

Must be able to work flexible hours and weekend rotations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the ability to maintain body equilibrium when bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching and/or stretching arms, legs or other parts of body to grasp, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical requirements are for Heavy Work.
