Job Description

The HVAC/R Technician performs skilled, complex work relating to the repair, maintenance and installation of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment/systems.

Pay Rate: $34 to $37 per hour, depending on experience

Schedule: Full-time (at least 32.5 hours per week) may require some work outside normal 9 to 5 hours.

Who you are:

  1. High school diploma/GED and targeted job related education
  2. Universal EPA Refrigeration Certificate
  3. Minimum two years of experience in HVAC/R role in commercial setting.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Coordinates with assigned supervisor and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.

  2. Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.

  3. Performs routine and preventive maintenance as needed for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functioning of HVAC/R systems.

  4. Installs heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded capabilities.

  5. Diagnoses cause of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning/refrigeration systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and/or replacement needs.

  6. Inspects HVAC/R systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, boilers, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.

  7. Repairs heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and/or components (e.g. pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coils, piping, kitchen equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a comfortable living and working environment.

  8. Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.

  9. Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.

  10. Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

  11. Responds to work orders and assists with other facilities related projects as assigned and as staffing needs require.

  12. Assists, during winter, with snow removal efforts.

  13. Serves on security detail when assigned. Follows established protocol for responding to and documenting community concerns.

  14. Utilizes time in efficient manner, completing duties in timely fashion.

  15. Participates in the orientation and development of new employees.

  16. Maintains skills and competencies utilized in work areas.

  17. Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 50 lbs. independently; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 60% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under temperature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment.
