The HVAC Technician provides HVAC services including identifying repair and replacement needs, installing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading HVAC systems and equipment. This role also assists other skilled trades and ensures that tools
and materials are available at the job site.


Key Responsibilities

  • Cleans Units: Clean air conditioning and heating units (e.g., coils, condensation pans, drain lines) to ensure proper operation and safety.
  • Coordinates Work: Collaborate with assigned leads, supervisors, and other trades to complete projects and work orders efficiently. Participate in a 24-hour rotation list.
  • Diagnoses Issues: Identify causes of problems or failures in HVAC systems (e.g., water leaks, odors, noise issues) to determine repair or replacement needs.
  • Fabricates Parts: Create equipment parts to meet specialty needs or replace unavailable parts.
  • Informs Personnel: Update personnel on procedures and work order status to assist decision-making and compliance with regulations.
  • Installs Equipment: Install heating and air conditioning systems to enhance or upgrade capabilities.
  • Maintains Tools: Ensure vehicle, tools, and equipment are maintained in a safe operating condition.
  • Monitors Contracts: Oversee contract work to ensure terms are met and standards are upheld.
  • Monitors Systems: Evaluate HVAC systems and components to identify necessary repairs and recommend preventive maintenance.
  • Participates in Training: Attend meetings, workshops, and training sessions as assigned to gather or convey information for job functions.
  • Performs Maintenance: Conduct routine and preventive maintenance to ensure HVAC systems function properly.
  • Documents Activities: Prepare written materials (e.g., repair status, activity logs) to document activities and communicate information.
  • Repairs Systems: Repair heating and air conditioning systems and components (e.g., pumps, motors, air handlers) to maintain a comfortable environment.
  • Requests Supplies: Order equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure availability for installations and repairs.
  • Responds to Emergencies: Address emergency situations during or after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Transports Materials: Move tools, equipment, and supplies to ensure materials are available at job sites.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Targeted job-related education with study in a related area.
  • Experience: Job-related experience in a specialized field is required.
  • Skills:
    • Operating equipment for HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance
    • Planning and managing projects
    • Maintaining accurate records
    • Handling hazardous materials
  • Knowledge:
    • Indoor air monitoring equipment and interpreting resulting data
    • Standards for design and construction

The Francis Howell R-III School District encompasses over 150 square miles in the southeast corner of St. Charles County and is one of the largest school districts in the State of Missouri. With an enrollment of nearly 18,000 students and approximately 2,300 employees, the Francis Howell Learning Community works every day to provide a consistent and comprehensive education that fosters high levels of academic achievement for all.

The history of the Francis Howell School District dates back to 1825. Through mergers, the District became the Consolidated School District No. 2 of St. Charles County in 1915. As a result of additional mergers, the District became the Francis Howell Reorganized #3 School District in 1951. The District serves portions of the municipalities of St. Charles, St. Peters, and O’Fallon, as well as Cottleville, Dardenne Prairie, Weldon Spring, New Melle, and unincorporated areas of St. Charles County.

The District’s educational facilities include ten elementary, five middle, and three high schools; three early childhood buildings; and two alternative education schools.
