QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent is required
  • Diploma in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, or a related technical field from a recognized institution.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair within an institutional, industrial, or commercial environment.
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations regarding refrigerant handling and system maintenance.
  • Strong technical skills in HVAC system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize maintenance tasks effectively.
  • Good record-keeping and documentation skills.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal abilities.

The position

The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa is an International Baccalaureate World School. It is the first in the network of Aga Khan Academies established by His Highness the Aga Khan.

We are seeking a qualified and experienced HVAC Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable climate control across all facilities, supporting a comfortable and conducive learning and working environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILICTIES:

  • Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and equipment across all facilities to ensure efficient operation.
  • Conduct routine inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance of HVAC units in accordance with manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults in HVAC systems down to the component level, performing corrective repairs to extend equipment life and reduce replacement costs.
  • Maintain, repair, and upgrade air conditioning infrastructure and associated ventilation control systems to ensure optimal indoor air quality and comfort.
  • Develop, modify, and implement preventive maintenance programs for HVAC systems to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Oversee and inspect HVAC work performed by external contractors or service providers to ensure compliance with quality, safety, and performance standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all HVAC activities, including maintenance schedules, service reports, and technical drawings.
  • Ensure proper calibration and configuration of HVAC controls and automation systems for energy efficiency and operational consistency.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations when handling refrigerants, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
  • Provide technical support and advice to management and other maintenance personnel on HVAC-related issues and upgrades.
  • Any other reasonable and relevant duties assigned by the line manager.
