Examples of duties

This role maintains, adjusts, monitors, and repairs HVAC and refrigeration systems that support critical operations at Fort Indiantown Gap. As a HVAC Refrigeration Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform scheduled service on HVAC systems with a focus on gas-fired units and related appliances
  • System Calibration: Clean, test, and adjust controls, sensors, and actuators to support proper operation
  • Performance Monitoring: Evaluate HVAC and hydronic systems to identify performance issues and adjust components accordingly
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnose complex malfunctions, assemble and disassemble units, and test equipment for correct functionality
  • Electrical Work: Repair controls, determine electrical loads, and install wiring in accordance with the National Electrical Code
  • Material Preparation: Prepare estimates and material lists while maintaining accurate records of work performed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • As an essential employee in this position, you may be required to work during emergencies or office closings.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the HVAC and Building Automation Technician trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) ; or
  • Three years of experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of HVAC and refrigeration systems, units, and equipment including one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year working with commercial or industrial HVAC or refrigeration equipment and controls.

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • You must obtain EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification from an approved provider within 6 months of employment.


Additional Requirements:

  • You must pass a favorable National Crime Information Center (NCIC) screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willingness and ability to work in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania
  • Possession of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Certification
  • Possession of an Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and/or wiring diagrams and schematics
  • Experience making adjustments and repairs to the heating systems (steam, hot water, and gas) and refrigeration and freezer units (reach-in and walk-in)
  • Experience installing refrigeration or HVAC systems, units, equipment, and peripheral devices
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance on all related equipment
  • Experience responding to emergencies by going onsite and troubleshooting problems
  • Experience making adjustments online or in-person if necessary to maintain comfortable conditions
  • Experience conducting building inspections to ensure adequate heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, and circulation in buildings
