This advanced, journeyman-level position is part of the LSU Facility Services HVAC Department. The role involves installing, repairing, adjusting, and modifying HVAC and refrigeration systems, including electronic and pneumatic control systems. Responsibilities also include performing preventive maintenance to ensure optimal system performance. LSU operates a complex network of chiller, steam, and hydronic heating and cooling systems. The HVAC/Controls Technician Master will be expected to apply both theoretical knowledge and hands-on troubleshooting skills to maintain and support these systems.
Job Responsibilities
30%- Performs preventive maintenance tasks, such as changing and adjusting belts, and servicing HVAC equipment with appropriate lubricants and chemicals. Uses the HVAC control program to ensure actuators open/close correctly and motors start, stop, and rotate properly.
25% - Works independently with minimal supervision to investigate and perform general repairs on building air conditioning and heating systems, as well as other mechanical equipment such as freezers, fans, and related components.
20% -Conducts technical repairs and complex diagnostic analysis on all types of HVAC and refrigeration control systems. Performs inspections and preventive maintenance, ensuring proper interfacing between electrical and temperature control systems, including interlocks, relays, and related components.
10% -Installs, replaces, adjusts, and calibrates major refrigeration unit components such as compressors, condensers, expansion valves, service valves, thermostats, coils, and drive assemblies.
5% -Performs air balancing as needed to achieve specified comfort and performance levels.
5% -Overhauls and repairs pumps, motors, control systems, piping, and other equipment used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
5% -Performs other duties as assigned by the department, including participation in on-call rotations and emergency response as needed.
Special and Physical Requirements
This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.

Ability to work in all weather conditions. In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure.
This position will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required for the position.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Three years of experience or training in the installation or maintenance of pneumatic, electrical, or electronic control systems for heating (including boiler), ventilating, or air conditioning systems.
