The Commercial HVAC Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and servicing commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently while supporting company safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial HVAC equipment, including:
◦ Rooftop units (RTUs)
◦ Split systems
◦ Chillers
◦ Boilers
◦ Variable air volume (VAV) systems
◦ Make up air units
◦ Exhaust and ventilation systems
◦ VRF Systems
• Perform routine preventive maintenance to maximize equipment performance and lifespan.
• Identify system deficiencies and recommend repairs or upgrades to customers.
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, control schematics, and manufacturer specifications.
• Safely recover, handle, and recharge refrigerants in accordance with EPA regulations.
• Complete service tickets, work orders, and documentation accurately and on time.
• Maintain compliance with all safety policies, OSHA regulations, and company procedures.
• Communicate professionally with customers, project managers, supervisors, and support teams.
• Participate in on call rotation and respond to emergency service calls as required.
• Maintain service vehicle, tools, and inventory in a clean and organized manner.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 3–5 years of commercial HVAC service experience (or equivalent combination of experience and training).
• EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification required.
• Strong understanding of:
◦ Electrical troubleshooting (low and high voltage)
◦ Controls and building automation systems (BAS)
◦ Mechanical and refrigeration principles
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Trade school or technical certification in HVAC.
• Experience with advanced controls, energy management systems, or large tonnage equipment.
• Experience servicing Apartments, healthcare, industrial, or large & small commercial facilities.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, and rooftops.
• Able to work in confined spaces and varying outdoor weather conditions.
• Capable of standing, walking, kneeling, and bending for extended periods.
Work Environment
• Field based commercial service work.
• Exposure to mechanical equipment, electrical systems, and refrigerants.
• On call, overtime, and after hours work may be required.
