Job Description

ASRC Federal Communications is seeking a HVAC/Boiler Operator for our ISS2 contract supporting our Air Force customer. This position is located at Eareckson Air Station in Shemya, AK.

This is a rotational position where the selected employee will work a schedule with 3 months on-site at Earackson Air Station and 1 month off, unpaid.  While working on-site, housing is provided as a dormitory facility.  All meals are served through the cafeteria.

Transportation to EAS from Anchorage, AK, is provided by government-sponsored aircraft.

The Boiler Operator tends one or more boilers to produce steam or high-temperature water for use in an establishment. Fires boilers; observes and interprets readings on gauges, meters, and charts which register various aspects of boiler operation. The incumbent also performs repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of commercial, industrial, and residential heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and tools; cuts and threads pipe using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.

Bends and forms sheet metal for ductwork, grease pans, etc.

Repairs, overhauls, maintains, and services industrial and residential heating, ventilating, hydronic, and air conditioning systems, and refrigeration units. Troubleshoots and locates malfunctions, diagnoses problems, and determines appropriate repairs.

Adjusts, repairs, or replaces thermostats, pressure stats, relays, switches, and electrical wiring.

Repairs or replaces compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, and pulleys. Services and repairs evaporators, condensers, and receivers. Repacks valves, lubricates moving parts, replaces filters and cleans coils as needed.

Works from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal and written instructions.

Repair components within a system to include transformers, motors, electrodes, solenoids, rheostats, PLC controls, and aqua stats.

Performs duties on PL-1 resources under the direction of the MDA Liaison.

Responds to call-outs after normal working hours as needed.

Assists other trades and crafts personnel in their daily operations, as directed.

Ensures proper housekeeping of jobsite, mechanical rooms, and shops.

Performs related work as assigned.

Common safety practices and protective equipment used on a construction site.

The use of hand and power tools.

Understanding and following directions.

Working cooperatively and safely with others on common projects.

Work Conditions:

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information and respond to safety warnings. Work conditions require the employee to stand; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; smell; and work on scaffolding and ladders. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and/or move heavier objects with assistance.

Job Requirements:

Mandatory

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two (2) years’ verifiable experience as an HVAC technician or Boiler Tender.

Universal refrigerant card issued by the EPA.

Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Obtain an interim security clearance and maintain a secret clearance.

Must pass a background check, drug screening, fingerprints, and a fit-for-duty physical exam; candidates must be medically cleared for long-term residency in a remote location with limited access to healthcare.

   Preferred

Boiler Tender certificate of fitness.
