Job Description

A major energy infrastructure programme in Dublin is seeking an experienced HV Cables Civil Specialist to support the delivery of high-voltage underground cable projects up to 400 kV across the national electricity network.

This position will work closely with project management teams, engineering specialists and contractors to deliver civil engineering design solutions across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility through detailed design and construction support.

Additional Information

• Based in Dublin 2 with hybrid working, minimum 2 days per week onsite
• 24 month contract
• Anticipated start date June 2026
• Site visits required nationwide, typically a minimum of once per week
• Working hours 08:30 to 17:00, Monday to Friday (7.5 billable hours per day)
• Current SafePass and manual handling training required
• Contractors must have access to phone, laptop/PC and internet facilities
• Steel toe boots compliant with S3 EN ISO 20345 required

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of civil engineering design solutions for HV underground cable projects across all stages, from feasibility and optioneering through detailed design and construction support
• Verify and technically approve civil engineering deliverables produced by the design team, providing guidance, challenge and mentoring
• Act as subject matter expert and technical authority for HV cable civil works, including trenching, duct systems, joint bays, HDD, tunnelling and complex crossings in constrained environments
• Provide specialist technical leadership through project conception, scoping, estimating, programming, design development and contract delivery
• Manage technical risk, interfaces and design assurance for cable civil works
• Carry out civil engineering design reviews for FIDIC Yellow Book (Design and Build) HV cable projects
• Act as Designer under PSDP where assigned
• Promote a strong safety management culture across all activities
• Build and manage strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, suppliers, statutory bodies and delivery partners

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years' relevant post-qualification experience in civil cable design
• Technical expertise to support delivery of a portfolio of HV Linear Assets projects
• Strong knowledge and experience of the Project Supervisor Design Process (PSDP) and the Construction Regulations
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment
• Proven track record of managing significant projects or critical aspects of large projects
• Level 8 Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification, or demonstrable equivalent work experience
• Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland or equivalent internationally recognised engineering body
• Full driving licence and access to a car

Desirable

• Experience with FIDIC Conditions of Contract, including EPC, Design and Build, and Multi-Direct Contracting on large projects
• PSDP Competency HV1/HV2 (or CDMC equivalent)
• Level 9 Master Degree in Engineering
