Objective of Job:
• As a Thermal Battery Engineer, you are responsible for customer-relevant thermal KPIs of the HV battery project, including temperature distribution, peak cell temperature, delta temperature, heat rejection capability, thermal robustness and charging/discharging thermal performance.
• You drive the full development scope from concept phase to series production with clear focus on thermal simulation, model correlation, battery and vehicle level testing, and validation of thermal requirements.
• You define, assess and optimize thermal path design proposals for cells, modules, cooling plates, interfaces and pack architecture, and ensure design decisions are validated by simulation and test results.
• Objectives include HV battery thermal system engineering, requirement definition, simulation and testing strategy, supplier steering, root-cause analysis, stakeholder alignment and management reporting.
Tasks:
1. Thermal system engineering, simulation and testing
• Define thermal requirements and target values for HV battery thermal KPIs at cell, module, pack and vehicle level
• Develop and assess thermal concepts using simulation methods and engineering judgement for relevant operating and environmental scenarios
• Plan, evaluate and correlate simulation results with battery and vehicle level test data, and derive robust improvement measures
• Monitor requirement fulfillment, steer issue investigation and root-cause analysis for thermal deviations and performance risks
• Collaborate with related departments in China and Germany and support the project team on thermal system related topics
2. Thermal design proposal and supplier steering
• Define and review thermal path design proposals for cooling plates, interfaces, flow paths and thermal countermeasures together with suppliers and engineering partners
• Steer suppliers and engineering service providers for simulation models, design maturity, testing scope and validation deliverables
• Track implementation status, evaluate technical results and ensure closure of thermal risks and open points
• Create and maintain the necessary technical documentation for development decisions and validation evidence
3. Internal coordination and validation alignment
• Align thermal requirements, simulation assumptions, test scope and validation criteria with relevant RD China and RD Germany stakeholders
• Coordinate cross-functional activities with battery, drivetrain, vehicle, software and testing teams to achieve timely design releases and validation milestones
• Reporting
• Prepare and present the thermal development status, KPI maturity, simulation results, testing progress and critical risks for internal reviews and management committees
• Align reporting content with all relevant parties and support clear technical decision making based on validated evidence
