What’s the Job?

As HR Manager, you’ll drive HR initiatives such as recruitment, compensation and benefits, employee relations, and training programmes to ensure compliance and support hotel colleagues. You’ll promote a positive team culture while ensuring colleagues deliver guest experiences that are unique and bring the voco brand to life. You’ll also advise the General Manager and leadership team on all people-related matters.

Your Day-to-Day

People

• Create programmes to foster a positive work environment for all colleagues.
• Support and administer the annual colleague satisfaction survey.
• Educate and train managers on HR disciplines to improve productivity and enhance performance.
• Conduct new colleague orientation and onboarding programmes.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel files and records for all colleagues.
• Ensure recruitment standards, employment laws, and company policies are followed while hiring individuals who align with the culture and values of voco Kuching.
• Build strong relationships with external stakeholders, including universities, industry partners, colleagues, and relevant government bodies.

Responsible Business

• Develop awareness and strengthen the reputation of the hotel and brand within the local community while promoting colleague participation in community initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with employment laws and company policies and procedures.
• Handle employee grievances with professionalism, care, and confidentiality.
• Research and investigate workplace issues to establish facts, identify potential risks, and facilitate resolution through employee relations programmes.
• Collect and analyse data from exit interviews, turnover statistics, and absenteeism reports to identify trends, training needs, and management issues.
• In a union environment, manage labour relations and represent the hotel in grievances, mediation, arbitration, and contract negotiations where required.
• Perform other ad hoc duties as needed, including Manager on Duty responsibilities.

Guest Experience

• Develop creative ways to inspire and motivate team members to deliver memorable guest experiences.
• Take time to interact with guests, gather feedback, and build relationships to better understand opportunities to improve guest satisfaction.
• Work with department heads to develop initiatives that support service standards and drive continuous improvement in the guest experience.

Financial

• Support the preparation and management of the HR budget.
• Monitor staffing levels and labour standards to manage costs effectively.
• Mitigate financial risks associated with employee relations issues.
• Identify and analyse local compensation and benefits practices to ensure market competitiveness.

Accountabilities

• Serve as the senior HR leader for a large luxury hotel or flagship property with extensive facilities, multiple outlets, and significant meetings, events, and convention operations.
• Lead and develop the HR team, including HR coordinators and administrative support colleagues.
• Partner closely with the General Manager and Executive Committee to drive talent, culture, engagement, and organisational effectiveness initiatives.

What We Need From You

• Bachelor’s degree, higher education qualification, or equivalent.
• Minimum 4 years of related HR experience.
• Previous supervisory experience preferred.
• Professional HR certification or designation preferred.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all HR-related matters.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in English and the local language.
• Additional language skills are an advantage.
