In partnership with the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Human Resources, the Human Resources (HR) Manager oversees and manages key human resource and operations activities for the organization that include but are not limited to employee relations; legal compliance; HR program management; Human Resource Information System (HRIS) maintenance and reporting; and employee training programs.

This exempt position will report to the AVP of Human Resources in the Department of Human Resources. It is based in our Chicago office and is a hybrid role: 3 days per week in the office/2 days per week remote.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $105,000 - $120,000 (commensurate with related experience).

Responsibilities:

  • Employee Relations Under the guidance of the AVP of Human Resources, the HR Manager supports the organization by managing employee relations matters in a professional, appropriate, and timely manner. Manages the performance review and goal setting processes. Serves as a point of contact for employee questions related to internal policy, employment procedures, HRIS, training and other HR related matters. Partners with Division leaders to advance people management strategies to effectively develop and engage employees.
  • HR Program Management Participates in, and contributes to, the development and facilitation of New Hire Orientation; manages the ACS Peer Buddy Program; oversees successful on-boarding and off-boarding of employees; creates and implements plans to address gaps and/or improve effectiveness of employee programs. This position also serves as a liaison to the ACS Active employee events committee and the organization’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).
  • Training & Development: In partnership with HR leadership, works to identify and evaluate training program opportunities for employees; maintains and provides feedback to enhance training resources; develops, coordinates, and/or facilitates employee and manager training. Manages employee training courses and resources made available through the organization’s learning portal. Manages and directs implementation of annual compliance training via established vendor relationship.
  • Culture & Engagement Acts as a champion for employee engagement activities and programs. Manages and reviews day-to-day people operations to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Facilitates the distribution and analysis of employee surveys. Identifies opportunities to improve program adoption, employee engagement and overall effectiveness. Evaluates and supports employee recognition programs.
  • Compliance Partners with the AVP, Human Resources, to review policies and procedures to ensure organizational compliance with federal and state employment guidelines. Implements policies and practices to ensure accurate, effective compliance reporting (AAP, VETS, EEO-1, etc.).
  • System Support and Management Supports maintenance of information in the HRIS. Coordinates the generation of, and at times creates system reports that support compliance requirements and overall organizational goals; implements online business processes that increase effectiveness of internal process and procedures. Researches and learns new products and makes recommendations on system enhancements that will improve employee services and streamline HR processes.

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • HRCI and/or SHRM certification is a plus (i.e., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP).
  • At least 5+ years of similar or related HR generalist experience is required, including 2+ years employee relations experience.
  • Experience with administration of HR/Payroll systems (UKG a plus).
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Sound judgement and discretion in working with sensitive and confidential information, including familiarity with legal compliance.
  • Ability to earn trust and credibility with employees at all levels.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness in identifying solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Strong organizational skills. Must be able to multi-task effectively to deliver quality work and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and as a member of a team.
