Join the Town of Erie's Human Resources (HR) team for a hands-on HR Internship where you won’t just observe—you’ll actively contribute and build real-world skills across multiple areas of Human Resources. You’ll gain exposure to the full employee lifecycle, supporting projects in recruitment, onboarding, benefits, training, performance management, employee relations, and more.
In this role, you’ll:
- Work alongside experienced HR professionals on meaningful, day-to-day operations
- Get practical experience with systems, data, and processes that keep an organization running
- Contribute to real projects, from hiring and onboarding to employee engagement initiatives
- Explore different areas of HR to discover what interests you most

Work Hours: Part-time;(Monday-Friday shifts) 15-20 hours per week
- Estimated start date of July 13, 2026, for 260 total working hours.
- Schedule may vary depending on scheduled tasks and various events within the Town of Erie Human Resources Department
Primary Work Location: Erie Town Hall (645 Holbrook Street in Erie, CO)
- Telework options available with supervisor approval, with onsite work required based on supervisor needs, regularly scheduled meetings and Town events.
- This position may require your attendance at other Town facilities.

Duties And Responsibilities:
Recruiting
- Fully participate in the recruitment process for a benefited position, to include:
- Create a posting in our ATS system and assist with the review of candidates for minimum qualifications
- Attend Recruiting kick-off meeting to gain knowledge of position and hiring manager desired qualifications/traits
- Assist with the job description creation process and submitting into ATS (Paycom)
- Execute self-onboarding to new employees through HRIS system (Paycom)
- Assist with interview question creation
- Shadow the offer planning process with Recruiting and the hiring manager
HRIS / Leave Coordination / Event Planning
- Assist with planning annual Employee Appreciation event
- Create personnel folders in Laserfiche and file new employee paperwork according to pre-established system
- Shadow HR Generalist through the Family Medical Leave and Short-term Disability claim process; attend employee meeting, assist with paperwork
- Assist generalist in Personnel Action Form completion and processing for payroll
- Scan paper I-9s into HRIS system
- Generate Personnel Action Forms in Paycom for anniversary increases and performance bonuses
Benefits
- Assist with open enrollment preparation (benefits fair and meetings), prepare communications to staff and upload / update benefits materials to the Benefits SharePoint page
- Attend benefits renewal meeting(s)
Employee Relations
- Partner with the HR Business Partner to support employee relations meetings and mediations by observing discussions, contributing as appropriate, and assisting with research, documentation, and post-meeting follow-up.
Learning and Development
- Gain exposure to L&D training coordination, communication, and logistics through
- Attend an internally offered training
- Review course evaluation results for training
- Assist with putting together a Monthly Training Update email that goes to all staff
Senior Staff Leadership Exposure
- Attend one senior staff weekly meeting with Director of HR and give update on a topic or project that HR is working on
- Attend one Town Council meeting in person or watch virtually to gain exposure to how local government works

QualificationsMinimum

Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum one year of administrative and/or customer service experience
- Pursuit of a degree in Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, Psychology Business or a related field may substitute for the one year of experience.

Qualifications
- Completion of at least two years of college.
- Demonstrated passion for service and a growth mindset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience using Microsoft Office programs including SharePoint, Teams, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Job Expectations
- If the employee will be driving, the Town will require a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.  A motor vehicle record will be pulled through the background check.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position can be considered.
