Job Description

Working in conjunction with HR Leadership, the HR Intern will have the opportunity to learn about the company from the ground up while developing a diverse range of skills within the employee life cycle, from recruitment to retirement. You will learn how to handle a variety of situations effectively, find appropriate solutions, and gain relevant work experience. With this internship, you will learn how to apply a wide range of new competencies in real business environments while acquiring effective time and people management skills. You will be a team player in recruitment efforts at the Reno Operations Center (ROC), providing support with relevant HR administrative functions, while fostering a positive employee experience.

You will play a hands-on role in daily HR programs and operations, gaining practical experience in candidate sourcing and onboarding, benefits and HRIS administration, compliance auditing, document management, and employee engagement initiatives. Ultimately, this role provides an excellent opportunity to support our teams while executing the essential day-to-day activities of a Human Resources department.

Challenge Yourself - The Specifics:

Recruitment

• Post job openings
• Review resumes for job openings
• Contact ROC candidates and prescreen (via phone) for employment
• Schedule candidates for interviews with ROC Management
• Produce new hire documentation and initiate the onboarding process
• Participate in the onboarding presentation to learn more about the process and offer suggestions for improvement, and potentially offer the presentation

Employee Engagement

• Manage Employee Engagement initiatives to include FUCA Raffle, Elemental Note of the Week, and the quarterly Employee Newsletter
• Help coordinate employee events; take notes at Culture Committee meetings and track events and their progress from start to finish
• Support onboarding and offboarding of employees and associated logistics
• Manage survey responses in the Engage platform to get feedback on event participation and recommendations for future events

Administrative

• Participate in operations center departmental meetings, informing employees of upcoming changes, events, and other HR initiatives
• Provide support to technology changes with Paychex and BambooHR; may include auditing processes and documents
• Review I-9’s and support ongoing audit and record retention
• Review and update job descriptions, ensuring all employees have signed current versions on file
• Manage the 90-day review tracker, sending timely reminders to managers for new hires, employee promotions, and department transfers
• Support insurance-related processes to include workers’ compensation, disability, health, dental and vision carriers, and COBRA
• Promote employee enrollment in the company’s 401(k) plan
• Send eligibility reminders when employees become eligible for 401(k) plan
• Manage South RAC enrollments and audit payroll deductions to ensure accuracy
• Assist with document management, including sending reminders on signatures and acknowledgments
• Assist with income and employment verifications

• Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships, providing a high level of service to employees, customers, vendors, and contractors
• Performs additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High School graduate; enrolled in higher education in a related field
• Excellent use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Google Suite
• Good listening and communication (verbal and written) skills
• Strong use of tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines
• Must have attention to detail and be well-organized
• High sense of patience and ability to work in an ever-changing environment
